Kudos to River Leaf Models !!!!

Hello everyone,

 

         I finally had the time to build up the River Leaf Models Cafe and book store. It was a pleasure to work on this kit, I opened the box at exactly 9:35am this morning. I was just about finished by 1:15 this afternoon, this is even with waiting for the paint and brick mortar to dry. It was so straight forward and simple to build, i sprayed the entire building with the colors of my choice. Within 25 minutes the structure was dry and i was able to add my brick mortar, I waited another 20 to 25 minutes and i was able to start assembling the structure. While i was assembling the main structure, i started painting all the add on detail parts. By the time i finished assembling the main structure (which took about 25 minutes) the detail parts were dry and ready to be applied. 

 

         I have to say what a fantastic kit to build  so well made so simple to build. It was amazing how everything fit together, top notch in my book. 

Andre, I take my hat off to you. There's still a bit to do, i have to add interior and exterior lighting, and Andre is making two custom sign's for me.

Main building colors  Rust-o-leum Khaki and Rusty metal primer 

Trim Rust-o-leum flat gray primer 

Doors and windows  Rust-o-luem flat white

Brick mortar   Acrylic flat black slightly watered down

Alex & Andre, a great looking building and nice to hear it goes together so easily.  The mark of a quality product and an expert modeler !  Alex, can you please describe the mortar process as it will be my first kit assembly.  Is the brick mortar part of the kit and you simply paint ?  What type of glue did you use for this kit ?

Hi Mike,

 

 The brick mortar process is quite easy. I just used flat black Acrylic paint

and diluted it with a few drops of water. Mixed it up a bit and applied it with

a small paint brush all over the main walls. I only waited less than a minute to wipe

it off, when wiping it off you must use a damp rag and constantly use a clean portion

of the rag. If you leave the rag in the same position you won't be able to wipe off the excess paint. Keep wiping until you achieve you desired look. Only do one wall at a time.

You are doing a great job on what looks like a well engineered kit. (I have designed a number of kits myself)

I do have a suggestion for future builds or others building like kits. 

The sides of wall edge, where the brick detail is difficult to engrave with a laser, take a X-acto or small file and just cut basic mortar lines. You do not have to go full detail....just a suggestion that there are mortar lines will fool the persons eye/brain and make it look more complete.

Good eye Dave!!

I supply 4 bricks stripes with my building to cover that edge, maybe Alex skip that!!

here is an example.
