Ever wondered why Lionel chose Laimbeer Packaging for one of their Tractor-Trailer releases? A rather obscure selection, no? Well, wonder no more. I just noticed this:
Was that company related to Bill Laimbeer, who played for the Pistons (a Detroit connection, perhaps)? IIRC, his father was a successful businessman - back in the 1980s it was said that Laimbeer was one of the few NBA players whose father made more money than he did.
Back in the day, when the Detroit PIstons dominated the NBA and Isaiah Thomas was the center point, Bill Laimbeer was the big guy in the middle. He couldn't jump much, but not many could move him from the center of the key.
He was well known and very popular in the Southeast Michigan area. Laimbeer Packaging is his company.
