It's a joke...a former poster used to say he would wait until the latest software was in the Legacy system before buying it.  Problem is as long as they release updates, it will never be the latest.

Some folks have been having issues that seem to be related to over tightening of screws on the remote.  The few that I personally know of were solved by backing them off just a bit.

The charger is improved but must use the correct batteries. I'll let those who have aquired a new system give you better advice.  I was just havin' some fun with ya.

Gotcha, thanks for the clarification. I'm not necessarily concerned about the software as much as the few early production "bugs" that can occur in many things not just trains, which subsequently are engineered out in later production runs. My legacy locos are on the verge of outnumbering my TMCC locos so I guess the "writings on the wall" so to speak

I've got a question related to this, and would appreciate any feedback.  I just set up a power system with a brand new Legacy Main system #990, brand new to the LHS, & an expansion set #993.  The expansion Cab2 couldn't find the base.  I kind of ran out of time, but did see in the #990 brochure that it was calling it a V1.4 system.  I didn't check the paperwork for the #990 base yet, but my theory is I've got a #990 with V1.4 & a #993 with V1.3.  That is why the Cab2 supplied with the #933 won't connect with the #990 Command base.  Is the module to upgrade the #993 Cab2 in the #990 V1.4 box? What is my easiest fix?  Maybe the #990 was brand new V1.4 & the #993 was around the shop for awhile and V1.3.  I think I'm on the right track.  If anyone can point me in the right direction from here I'd appreciate it greatly.        WK

That begs the question, how do I use the Legacy 1.4 Cab module?  I need to read the manual, just haven't got that far yet.  All I did to set up the #993 was plug it in.  Is there a step I missed?  It's only a charger right?  I'll spend some time with the manual after I read the sports page this morning, but your wisdom is always welcome.

Just thought I'd let you know that I installed the Cab2 blue module from the V1.4  #900 set into the inoperable Cab2 from the #900 set and followed the download instructions and Bingo!-  now we are fully rigged in Legacy 1.4 wth 2 Cab2s.  Nothing to it.  Thanks for the feedback.  It's always nice to doublecheck with those in the know.

I can atest to the fact that the 1.3 modules will screw up a 990 that has 1.4 installed.

A customer purchased a 990 set from our store and registered it with lionel. They sent him out a set of 1.3 modules. He thought that he needed to upgrade his 990 so he installed the 1.3 version without even looking at the modules that came with the 990.

The rsuilt was when he turned on the cab2 he just got a blue screen and nothing worked.

He returned it to the store and I was able to re-install the 1.4 version and everthing was fine.

I was just surprised that Lionel sent him out the 1.3 upgrade. The serial number on the unit should have indicated that it was already at 1.4.

Just my two cents.

The Legacy with V1.4 would not turn off correctly so I changed

the Cab2 soft ware to 1.3 thinking the problem was  V1.4

software. It did not work and the screen was blue. Changed back

to V1.4 and still had the problem with turn off. Lionel suggested

loosing the 2 screws on the back of the Cab2 under the CTC button.

This did not fix the turn off problen so it went back to Lionel this week.

Picked up a 993 Legacy expansion pack. It had V1.0 software but

would not work with a V1.4 base. Changed the software to V1.4

and everything works including turning off correctly.

Not to say there isn't a possible problem with the CTC button, but I just recieved my Legacy system last week and you must hold the CTC button down for a second or two when turning on or off, basically holding it until it turns on or off, works every time. I'm sure this helps to prevent turning it off when changing menus.Once the remote is on the quick press and release of the button will change the ctc menus. The feedback is weak, really unnoticable unless your bringing the locomotive to a hard stop from a highball, no big deal to me, its off, this feature is best left to my kids playstation controller. All in all very pleased the remote works like a charm, I especially love the slow grinding stop when the throttle is backed all the way down. I see what all of the legacy "hub bub " is all about! Its great! The trains "feel" much more realistic and "heavier". My diesel horn is almost more fun that the quillable whistles on my steamers!

The CTC button turn off is not the only problem

with the latest Legacy.Turning off the engine marker

lights with the engine running, the engine will stop and whistle

will sound. Restarting the engine and turning on the marker

lights will stop the engine and sound the whistle. When in the

train link mode, pressing the train link button again will not

leave the train link mode. Pressing the Scroll button and turning

the throttle knob, not all engines are displayed.

Sometimes it works correctly and other times it has problems. The

last batch of Cab2s has a mine of its own.

I just purchased a new Legacy 990, and I am having the same problems with the CTC switch not shutting off, and the feedback button not turning on the vibration as well.

The red charger lights keep blinking even though the batteries are fully chargred, so I shut it off. I'll be taking it back to my dealer monday to see what can be done.

Zephyr 1- So you have a problem with the CTC button not

turning off the new batch of Cab2s.I returned mine to

Lionel. It was returned Friday with the same problem but

Lionel could find nothinf wrong. I have 2 Cab2s from the

new batch and both have the CTC turn off problem. Both

Cab2s also, when the engine marker lights are turned off, the

bell will sound twice and the engine will stop.

There is a mechical problem with the new batch of Cab2s.

The V1.4 software works correctly in older Cab2s.

You were clear but in the same post you asked if anyone from Lionel was here?  Only they can answer.  Maybe email Mike Reagan directly.  The "fix" that I have heard and some have had success with was loosening the top 2 screws a bit.

Obviously in PA's situation that didn't help.  Not sure what the solution is there other than contacting Lionel again.

and I hope someone from Lionel will confirm that a solution is 'at hand'....

I'm new to O gauge, and this is the only cab I have to run my layout. Again, the system is fantastic, but I'd sure like to be able to use all the features.

Anyone from Lionel out there???

I sent an email to Lionel about the CTC button

problem. The answer I received from Lionel was

to loosen the 2 screws on the back under the

CTC button. If this did not help then send it back

to Lionel. It did not help so I sent the complete

.Legacy back to Lionel. The system was returned

with the same problem and the statement there was

no problem found.

Well lets see, you can work with them and try to get it resolved (And help Lionel discover if there is a problem) Or do nothing and complain about it on an online forum and still have a CAB2 you are not satisfied with.

I guess the latter works for you .

FWIW I sent my CAB2 back three times, twice for something that there was a very easy workaround for (battery charger). But I wanted to working properly instead of having to sit on the forum and complain my charger was no good
