Wonderful video Dave! Also your weathering is just great, you sure have some smooth running trains there!
Thank you Mike!
Dave
Dave, great video. I really like the bridges. Uou did a fantastic job on them. Detail shows and I like the paint job and the weathering. And the weathering and painting on your buildings is amazing. Soo much attention to detail. Where did you get the template and materials for the bridges. You should teach a class.
SuperO Tom
SuperO Tom,
Thank you for your compliments and also for watching the video. The original bridge was built by Alan Graziano. I used styrene, laser cut parts, and 3D printed parts for all of the additions. I'm not sure if you watched the bridge video but If you go back one page in the thread, I have a video that shows the process.

Hello Folks,
I recently painted and weathered the steel mill. The goal was to try to pull in some of the colors from my steel mill backdrop and also pull in some of the colors from around the part of the layout where the model will live. The structure still needs to be installed and additional piping, signage, scenery, workers, etc. added but this was a huge milestone.
Below are progress photos and my latest YouTube video of the project to date. More to come with this.

Dave, that is masterful! The painting looks authentic and the way it blends with the backdrop is amazing. As with the other folks of your caliber on the forum, I’m in awe of your creativity and talent.
Jay
Well Dave, I'm blown away by the top of that Blast Furnace. That is extremely detailed work and extremely impressive!!!
As you noted, blast furnaces are big. That and because I lack the talent to construct those downcomers is why my blast furnaces are on my divider backdrop.

Are you aware of, or perhaps a member of, the steel mill special interest group in NMRA? Lots of very serious steel mill modelers there, and they share information.
Jay-As always your compliments are much appreciated.
George-Thank you. With your patience and knowledge on the subject, I'm sure you could do a heck of job.
Mallard4468-I am aware of the niche group but not a member. I have not looked into it but recently met a member of the organization, so we'll see.

Dave, I have commented on your talent a couple weeks ago but this masterpiece speaks for itself. You bring a new definition to “a talented artist”! You deserve all recognition for your craftsmanship, BRAVO!!!
Gene
Dave, that’s a mighty impressive structure. I like structures that serve a purpose in the operation scheme. Well Done.
Dave,
That's one nice industrial model. Well done.
Gene-All I can say is WOW, thank you! Just to clarify Alan Graziano made all of the structural modifications, I just through some paint on it.
Dave C-Thank you. I agree, the goal is to have at least one structure on the layout to service each type of car I have. With my limited space, that structure can even be part of a backdrop.
Joe-Thanks a lot!
Dave
Well done Dave! Well Done!
Outstanding work man! And I owe you a thank you! I stayed on the treadmill to watch Part 2 haha I'm fit and thoroughly impressed with your work!
Magnificent!
Peter
Kyle, Bill, and Peter,
Thank you kindly gents and thanks for stopping by. Bill, working out is an excellent time to watch train related videos. Glad I could help, lol.
Dave
It really looks great, Dave! Al did a magnificent job with that fine modeling. You really brought out the details with an excellent paint job! It could pass for on of the hulking mills in and around the Pittsburgh area!
Mark,
Thank you much. Yes it was a team effort on this one. If it passes for, resembles, or even reminds one of anything that is or was in the Pittsburgh area GOAL MET!
Dave
Hi Dave I know I am a day late and a dollar short but, but I have to say that you and Al make a great team and you guys do some amazing work!
Hey Mike,
Thanks for chiming in my friend. Look at the title of my thread...Never too late!!!
Dave
So intricately detailed! Each and every piece tells a story, can't wait to see the video. Great job!

Your welcome!
Half of the model is the painting and weathering. Your talents in that department are A plus. You have transformed this structure into a world class work of art.
Alan I appreciate you.
Dave
Hey Folks. I've been in the trenches doing bits and pieces around the layout. Big layout update coming sometime this Winter. I've been taking a bit of a break to run trains. Technically, I'm still working but between work sessions the trains roll. Here's my latest..
Dave
That's a lot of action, Dave! We will look forward to seeing the layout update when you are ready!
Mark,
Yeah, it was fun to make this one. Many times the trains I run in this series are intentional. This time it was whatever I had on the layout at the time. The K-4's and L1 are recent purchases. The K-4's and H10 still need Kadee couplers added and all of the locos in the video still need weathered. Thanks for watching and I will definitely be posting the layout update. BTW your church came out nicely. There are features of it that remind me of the church I grew up in.
Dave
Really looking good, Dave. I agree with Alan about your weathering skills.

Thank you, Dave!!!
Thank you George! Weathering was "scary" at first but now I can't look back.
Dave
Wow Dave, that consist looks real. Your weathering skills are on a different level. I enjoy finding the little things like the rust on the trestle. Subtle and not over done-very natural.

Thank you Jay. You might add that some of it is anomalies and happy "accidents".

I know what you mean. Scratch-building was the same way for me. But 16 years ago I realized that my structures were unique and after being encouraged by my friend @The Shadow I started scratch-building. And weathering steel mills is pretty easy - there is no limit to the amount of dirt they can accumulate!
George
Wow Dave, I can’t complement you enough on the talent and skill you have! The level of detail makes your layout look so realistic. Fantastic work!
Gene
Hey there Dave for someone who hasn't really done much, you sure have a wonderful looking railway! Your bits and pieces sure give the a lot of us to strive for!

George, like many things in life you just have to take the plunge.

Gene,
I always appreciate your complimentary words for my work. I'm a fish in an ocean with so many great modelers to learn from. This forum has been very helpful and inspiring.
