I'm considering pre-ordering one of these to pull my set of 20" Williams Amtrak Superliners (upgraded with constant voltage LED lighting). My Amtrak Dash-9 with TMCC (upgraded with CC-M) was pulling them but recently took a tumble off the layout due to a crossover switch pair being thrown incorrectly and is not functional after that fall.

I've been very happy with my LC+2.0 Big Boy and Charles Ro has a really nice pre-order price for the Genesis. I know it's shorter than the MTH/Williams models and I'm mostly concerned it might look silly to have a 14.5" loco pulling a string of 20" cars. As a comparison, the Dash-9 was about 18"

I think you'd be a lot happier with a full sized Genesis.  I picked up one of the older MTH Premier PS/1 scale-sized Genesis locomotives and upgraded it to TMCC to pull my Superliners.

If you look at the proportions in the real word it’s not that far off.  LionChief Plus 2.0 locomotives run like legacy except for the sounds.

Yeah, the more I think about it, the more I don't think the length difference would bother me all that much. And I love the LC+2.0 platform - can't say enough good things about my LC+2.0 Big Boy.

i have the best chance of affording this one

i talked to my god father about it and he said i can probably get it for my birthday next year

i was considering the hudson but my future layout will be set in the early 2000s so the hudson probably won't fit properly unless for an excursion

so 9 chances out of 10 i'll be getting the genesis

plus there is more paintschemes coming for the genesis this year

I've been waiting for years for Lionel to do a Genesis diesel, so was excited when I saw it announced, then disappointed that it was the scaled down LionChief line.  I have been running a pair of the Williams version for years now, to which I've added TMCC, but they just don't run like contemporary Lionel products do, nor do they have the detailing that a full scale model needs.  Now, I am waiting for an Atlas announcement of their run of the MTH Genesis diesels with the hope that they will be offered with TMCC.

As I posted on one of the new catalog threads, this is the one thing that caught my eye. I've been very happy with my previous Lion Chief Plus 2.0 purchase (the 0-6-0-t Switcher) and this is something new to me. I own absolutely no Amtrak locos so this is appealing. Wish they paired these with some appropriate passenger cars.

While I’d argue that it’s $20-50 too much, this is a big jump in detail for the lc+2.0 line. They did run the lionmaster sd80, but everything else has very basic post war levels of detail. With that said, I kind of like the NW2.

Remember, Lionel has raised the prices of LC+ by 20- $50 with every year. 2019 saw $479 for LC+ locomotives. 2020 saw $499, 2021and it’s $549 for a LionChief Plus locomotive. Part of this is obviously currency fluctuations as the products are imported. Part of these increases is inflation and part is distribution costs due to rising transportation costs.

Customers complain about pricing regardless if goes up or down. In my experience if a price goes down there’s always guy complaining it wasn’t a big enough change.  No one is forcing you to spend any of your money.

The LionChief Plus 2.0 Genesis being discussed is listed as $449.99 in the new catalog.  That is less than the lowest price you quote from 2019.

Yes it is.  That’s the point I was attempting to make.  The MTH acquisitions ARE lower than many Lionel products in the same category.  But, can one compare it to a steam locomotive? No, we should not as steam locomotives are more costly due to both materials and detail.

Got a couple of the catalogs in the mail this week and have had a chance to give them another run through. I may pull the trigger on the new Lion Chief Plus 2.0 Genesis. I'm a LC+ 2.0 fan and I own exactly zero Amtrak items so this would be a good way to get my feet wet. And Ro has an attractive pre-order price.

Here is a side-by-side comparison of a scale P42 and the Railking (now Lionel LC+2.0). There is actually a huge difference in proportions. Personally, as someone who prefers the PFA sequence on the MTH engines, $400 is not worth it for one of these LC2 models and I am happily waiting for Atlas to release some.

Thanks for this image.  I’m definitely getting the LCP 2.0.  My layout is small and this will work for me.

That’s a heck of a difference. The imperial sd70/es44 are fairly close, so I expected the genesis would be as well. With that said this is still an upgrade from most of the lc+ engines.
