I had a grand plan of using my iPad and LCS app to create a switching scenario, and video my iPad LCS finger actions. While doing this, I would be recording (using the Legacy RECORD function on the Legacy Cab2 remote). Then I would play back the recording, showing Yard locomotive movements, switches being set, etc., while videoing the yard itself to show the loco movements.  Then I could superimpose a cutout of the iPad onto the video of the layout itself, to show how the iPad LCS actions affected the layout.

But it appears that any actions taken on the iPad LCS, or using the remote switch levers, *don't* get recorded.  Only actions taken on the Cab2 itself. The Legacy instruction manual v1.3 (pg 44) alludes to this, stating "...operate the Cab just like you would normally. Everything you do will be saved."

It seems a pity that the YARD actions, etc. now available on the iPad can't be recorded for later playback. Am I missing something?

Bob, you are not missing anything. Marty is correct. The CAB2 recording feature has always been a "local" one. For example, if you had two operators, each with a cab remote, and one of them made a recording, only that one operator's commands would be recorded. The same is true with the LCS system. Only commands on the *recording* CAB2 are saved in that CAB2 recording.

However, the LCS SensorTrack will record command streams from all devices sending TMCC or Legacy commands. So you could use a CAB2 and the iPad App while making a SensorTrack recording and both sets of commands would be saved exactly as they were performed.

I like your video idea!
