Since this applies to both DCS and Lionel I wasn't sure which forum to post it in.

Currently my layout is controlled by DCS. There are 13 turnouts operated by tortoise switch machines via latching relays from the AIU.  Is there a way to wire the LCS so it can "piggy back" for lack of a better term if I wish to control the turnouts with the iPad touch screen app?

I currently have a Legacy 990 base/cab2 remote and an LCS module.

You can parallel the controllers for the switches, so that either control system can activate them, just wire them in parallel.  Since the switch is activated by a momentary connection, the parallel connections won't interfere with each other.

If you want the iPad to indicate the current switch position, that's a bit more difficult, you'll have use the Lionel STM2 and contacts on the switch machine to feedback the actual switch position to the LCS system.

Thanks for the quick reply John.  So I understand this correctly would you parallel at the AIU or the latching relays?  Right now it's a thought but might undertake it at some point.  I'm fine with wiring but usually need a diagram to follow for this hobby.

Would I need Lionel switch controllers (ASC2) in addition to the STM2.  I'm still a novice with Lionel's LCS system but about to change that.

Latching relays?  You simply parallel the outputs of the AIU switch feeds, I'm not sure what latching relays you're talking about.

You do need the ASC2 to actually do the switching, the STM2 is the feedback element that tells the LCS where the switches are.

In my application I am using Azatrax latching relays wired to the SW ports of the AIU.  I do not know if this changes anything as far as the wiring is concerned and I'm still learning.  Ignore the blue relay bank, that's for track power.
