Hello, I am thinking of getting the LCS WiFi module to connect my legacy control system to my ipad using the LCS App. However I was reading some of the Lionel Documentation and was a little confused about hooking up the LCS WiFi module because it said to activate switches you needed to have asc2s in the system. Right now I throw my fast track command control switches with my Cab-2. Is the asc2 module necessary or would I be able to throw my command control switches directly from the ipad with just the wifi module setup?

Thanks in advance for any input!

May I ask; I have a basic layout, a RTR set that I would like to ramp up to LCS. Specifically I want to do ipad control of switches. Is this what I need: LCS app, ipad, Wifi module, command control switches? I have looked at the example diagram many times, not sure how the wifi module would get commands to the CC switches.

Thanks!

How true. I really love the LCS and IPad app just because of being able to use my command switches and those that are connected to my SC2's. Makes it way easier to tap a diagram window versus trying to remember what switch number I have programmed in.

I have been thinking the same...and I only have 6 switches now with more to come. What was the RTE #?

It is possible to operate the WiFi Module without a command base (Cab1-L or Legacy) - but a command controlled switch requires the command base.

One possible configuration would be:

iPad->WiFi module->ASC2->Remote control switch

However, at some point you will probably want to add a command base for controlling locomotives; unless you stay completely conventional for running your trains.

I'd like to see them expand the library for the track a bit as well.  Jon Z. stated it was just there to make a "representative" layout and not be a true-to-scale 1:1 picture.  It would still be nice to have a bit more flexibility and variety in the track components, perhaps as things move along with the LCS product line?

I spoke or-rather emailed the author of RR-TRACK to see if he was interested in upgrading RR-Track so that as you design the layout, you could add attributes to control it through LCS. He has No interest.

I emailed him once about some feature or attribute that would be useful to me and the answer was essentially, it is what it is...

In order to use the older ASC with the Layout Control System, you'd connect it via an LCS SER2 module.

Thanks Rudy.  Can you answer if the new ASC2 can be used connected directly to the command base like the older ASC, or do you have to use the LCS power supply?  It looks like you need the power supply as I don't see a connection for the old style terminal block.

Every LCS installation requires one LCS Power Supply with DB9 Cable (6-81499). This connects to the command base to the first LCS device (such as an ASC2).
