Anyone else notice the whistle steam is a little light on smoke compared to the Pennsy H-10's that came out several years ago?

Now that’s on nice engine Skip, maybe someday I can pick one up at a blowout price.

Mine seemed this way at first. After around an hour of running and blowing the whistle, the whistle steam had a break through and seemed normal.
Thanks SuprChief, I'll keep an eye on it see what happens. Mine blows but is fairly light.
Low smoke output can also be caused by using too much smoke fluid. It cools the resistor so little smoke is produced. As more of the fluid is burned away output will increase.

Just got my custom run CN #2616 from MrMuffin a couple of days ago.
Seems pretty nice so far. I have to agree that the green front markers are a tad on the bright side, as is the firebox glow. but it runs quite nicely and behaves just fine.

My new Maine Central from Charles Ro. As others have stated, it seems like it takes a few hours before the whistle steam starts blowing well - I used some compressed air to remove any bubbles and make sure the line is clear. Beautiful engine and tender.

@Trainmaster04 - Further to your inquiry about the arrival of the Grand Canyon 2-8-0 Consolidation Set (product #2222050), according to Lionel's current shipping schedule it's supposed to be arriving in August 2022 - so it should be arriving any month now (🙏).

Mine just came today, with Harry Hieke's masterful medium weathering arranged through Mr. Muffin's Trains.
I see an SMD type LED in the roof of the cab, but it does not come on while the locomotive is in the stationary position. Is there a trick to get it to work?

Nice question Bob. I never even noticed it. I'll have to check mine again.
You may have to toggle rule 17 lighting ON with the Cab-2; not sure.
Nice weathering job by the way; I like it a lot.

@Bob "O" If the engine is already "fired up", simply press the engine soft key, and there should be a cab light button in the bottom corner. Note that this feature can only be accessed via legacy.

Unfortunately, the Rule 17 toggle does not turn it on. While I was in the train room, I checked the Legacy Control System manual. On page 35 are the exact instructions that Trainmaster suggested. But this Cab light icon does not help either.
I can live without a cab light. The flickering firebox certainly keeps things well lit. Rod, did you have a chance to see if your cab light works? Perhaps it's not meant to work.
It runs well and smokes well from the stack. Whistle steam is weak so far, but others have said it improves with time. Love the variable pitch for whistle and bell.
Thanks to both for suggestions.

Bob I did just check mine and the cab led is lit whenever the engine is stopped, and goes out just as it starts moving, just as it should. So I can say it IS supposed to work. It sounds like you may have a wiring or a connection issue? Hard to say.
Rod
Mine works like it should - on when stopped, off when moving.
1. Did you try hitting the reset "R" button and see if that helps ?
2. If not, try a program reset.

Thanks for the ideas. Tried both and still no cab light.
If I were brave, I'd take off the shell and trace the wiring. But I am not brave.
Bob
Maybe try holding down the AUX 2 button and bringing up the directional lighting. I don't think this controls the cab light, but might be worth a try.

Thanks for the link and suggestion. Still no luck.

I finally got my C&O and BC&G today after UPS didn't bother to tell me where they were.
Happy that the tender trucks got changed on the production run to a prototypical Andrews vs whatever that is that was shown in the catalog. Had already bought two sets of complete trucks at last years parts sale to change them out. I now have extra trucks that I will use somewhere and it saves me the trouble.
Now to change the headlight to a winged one and renumber to better match the prototype.
The BC&G is way off, but I'm just going to have to live with that as you will not get anything else - doesn't exist.

Wow, which one is the real one??
Kidding aside, they are really close and I have never seen pics of the real deal. Nice.
I see the real engine does not have the step in the running boards near the front. And it also has raised sides aroind the coal bin. Otherwise they are pretty close. And the tender does not hace a backup light, like the model depicts. The real one might have the front steam dome closer to the stack, kind of hard to tell exactly.
Thanks for the pics!

Thats great grj, thanks!
@Rod Stewart - Either the bottom photo in Bob’s pics is the real engine or they have giant leaves in Haliburton, Ontario. 😜

The bell placement is incorrect but otherwise nearly a dead ringer. The Lionel tender does not have a back up light as do the other 2-8-0's in this run.
Thanks for the improved picture GRJ.
Our autumn leaves are known for their colour and grandeur! Photos taken today. Next week the leaves would be even better
