I just purchased the Legacy 990 system.  I have one Legacy Diesel #1331 Rock Island.  I connected the system to the track with a single wire to the outside rail. I charged the system and installed the #1331 module to the Legacy Remote.  After applying 18 volts to the track, how do I begin using the remote?  Any help will be appreciated.

 

I also have three Lionchief engines which I run together on the mainline.  When I learn to run the Legacy Engine, can I run it with the Lionchief trains on the mainline track?

Did you assign the Legacy engine a unique ID per the instruction in the engine manual?  If so what is it?

 

The engine module needs to be loaded to that address in the CAB2.

 

After that it's pretty much push ENG XX (XX being the ID you gave it and where the module info was loaded) and following the manual and trying it out.

 

And yes it will operate fine with LC and LC+.

All Lionel Engines come pre-programmed as engine ID#1.  Read page 12 of the manual to run your train without programing the engine id to something new.  Read page 54 to program your engine to a specific ID #.  Page 55 tells you how to use your module to add info about your engine.  Below is the link to Lionels 990 info:

Well, I have have good news. As you may recall, my brand new Legacy 990 set was a lemon. The velocity dial on the remote was not working. It went back to Lionel for repair. It was shipped back to me and arrived yesterday.

 

Today I reconnected the Legacy system to my Fastrack and fired up the Lionmaster PRR T-1. Everything works perfectly and I am extremely happy.

 

If I had ANY concern it's that I have a feeling Lionel didn't just repair the problem with the handheld remote. I suspect Lionel replaced it. But it does not look like a brand new remote. Close enough, though. I can detect a few light scratch marks and signs of use on the remote (specifically, some built up finger grime around some, but not all, of the buttons). Maybe the repair technician had dirty fingers and a sloppy work bench. But it looks good enough and it works perfectly. I am okay with it.

 

Tonight, I will run the Lionmaster Legacy Big Boy around the 084 Fastrack and see how she (I mean HE) operates using the 990.

 

Now that I have the 990 connected to the track, I am all set to start converting some of my TMCC locos with ERR upgrades so I can have 100 speeds steps instead of only 32. I really enjoy running motives at relatively slow speed.

 

I also have to send my Lionel Legacy Polar Railroad Geep to Charlie at Nassau Hobby Shop to replace a broken gear.

 

Come November, I hope to receive the reissued BTO Legacy scale Polar Express engine and tender. I was preordered in April. Hoping it will be delivered in time to enjoy it during the holidays.

 

I have 4 Atlas locomotives with TMCC where I programmed the EOB to run in 128 speed steps. Initially, I operated them in CAB-1 mode on my LEGACY CAB-2. Then, I set the EOB to the factory default setting of 32 and swithced from CAB-1 to TMCC. With the momentum set to high, these TMCC-equipped engines move much smoother and slower in 32 speed step mode than they ever did in 128.

Thanks for the info. I am pleased with the slow speeds of the 32-step TMCC on the Lionmaster PRR T-1. But, when I dial up the speed a few notches on the 990 remote the engine appears to stay at the current speed. Then as I continue gradually increasing speed, it's like a threshold is crossed and the engine lurches faster from a smooth steady slow speed to noticeable jump in speed (not extreme, but noticable).

 

It seems to me that if I upgrade to ERR cruise commander I will get better -- hopefully, more fluid -- speed increases and decreases that I would expect to be better than the TMCC's 32 speed steps.

 

The Legacy 990 is my first foray into Lionel command control. I really like the MTH Proto 2 speed control. It's very fluid from slow to fast and vice versa. I am presuming it's the fact that the Lionel TMCC engine has only 32 speed steps. 

 

I am still learning as I go (and having fun with it).
