I am running Legacy v1.5 and my legacy base stops sending commands to the engine. It seems like the unit is off.  This has happened two times since the holidays.   Both times occurred after running trains over 1 hour.  I was able to run some sometime without any issues.

The 1st time, the engines running fine then everything stopped and lights flickered.  I turn off the power (Track, legacy base), restart, and now they are running conventional.  The engine flickers and the next time I cycle power it goes in the forward direction. I tried this with different engines and get the same result.  When I just hooked the TMCC command base without the legacy base, the engines work fine running TMCC.  I hooked up the Legacy base and got the same issue.  Then I powered off the entire layout and came back 20 minutes later.   I powered up and everything work fine.  I have no idea why it started working.

I had several running session after this issue with no problem.

Last night, the base did the same thing after my kids were running trains for an hour.  We powered down the legacy unit for 10 minutes and then tried again.  It seemed to work OK for the rest of the evening.  Not sure what the issue, but expect the base will have to be looked at by Lionel.  Any suggestions.

Thanks,

First off a legacy base can not run trains conventionally, trains receiving, no signal from the base typically "take off at full throttle". If the headlight has a steady blink when the train stops this is an indication of signal loss at the track, but are still recieving it from the base. The easy things to do is make sure your track and wheels are clean.

If the base is plugged into an outlet strip try plugging it directly into the wall outlet, some outlet strips can cause signal issues, one side of the legacy signal is transmitted through the ground lug on the base plug through the ground wiring of your "train room"

Be sure to power up the legacy base first, then the track, a delay in base powering means the loco can't find the signal initially.

Is your TMCC base connected through the legacy base as Lionel recommends? If not  the the seperate TMCC base and Legacy base connections can create signal issues as well.

Have you tried disconnecting the TMCC base and unplugging it and then seeing how legacy reacts?

Rick,

Thanks for the reply.  I will take a look at your suggestions.  I do run the TMCC Command base hooked up to legacy using the way Lionel recommends.  I will try this for a while with it unhooked.   This problem seems to happen at occasionally, so I will need to observe this more.  I will inspect all the TMCC/LEgacy engines to make sure their wheels are clean and clean / inspect the track.
