Good evening, The sounds on my pride and joy, Lionel Legacy UP Geep, #105, suddenly quit working. All I'd get is static. I re-programmed, and it worked temporarily but then failed again. Now no response to re-programming. I was running TMCC, but there was a PowerMaster also in the circuit. Reading the manual, I figured I ought to replace the battery. I didn't think I needed one, and had never even opened the compartment. (I bought the locomotive used.) It looked very simple in the manual. But, on opening the compartment, I saw all these wires and white connectors. (Photo) They don't seem to tease out easily and I'm afraid to pull too hard. Is there a battery connection in there somewhere? Or, do I need a new sound chip?

Thanks for any ideas before I once again go to LHS.

I had a similar problem with my UP 105, had to send it back to Lionel to get one of the  audio chips re-seated. Luckily it was still under warranty.

That wiring harness you see is for the lighting. It's pretty complex on this locomotive. Although I honestly feel that installing a battery will not help, as it sounds like a sound chip problem, be careful moving the wires/harness. Also make sure wires are not rubbing against the brass flywheel on top of the motor.

Best of luck!
