I just purchased the new Legacy Control System. I have no other remote controls. This is my first. Basically my lay out is 5 ovals of fastrack. 1 and 2 are large and each powered by a new ZW with 180 watt bricks each line. Tracks 3,4 and 5 are powered by separate new CW 80 transformers. There small runs. All accessories are powered by other transformers.  All tracks have crossovers to each other. All track ovals are isolated from each other as far as power, but all are combined with a common ground. I have Legacy Trains, TMCC Trains and Conventional Trains. I would like to operate all 5 lines by remote with any train I want to run. I have been studying , watching videos until I'm about brain dead. Can you please tell me what equipment I need to purchase in order to do this. Or if if I can even do it. Thanks in advance for any help.

Unless you have conventional engines that you wish to control with the remote you need purchase nothing additional. Just connect the "U" terminal of the Legacy base to your common ground. Turn the legacy base on and then turn up the voltage of the appropiate transformer  and enjoy. If you wish to control the conventional engines with the remote you will need a TPC 3 or 4 for each transformer.

First of all, how large are your loops? To make things easier you may have enough power from your 180w bricks to run all 5 of your loops and eliminate all of the extra transformers. I would suggest powering tracks 3,4&5 with the bricks as well and using toggle switches turn turn the track power on and off. All you need to do to operate legacy is to connect the wire from the legacy base to you common and as long as there are no breaks in the common legacy will operate a loco on all of your loops. Legacy will operate any tmcc equipped loco as well.

You could get 2 more 180 watt bricks and hook them up to the new style ZW and get 4 legacy controlled loops. The only problem is outputs B & C come up at full voltage and can then be backed off with the remote. A & D start at Zero and are variable for conventional operation with the remote. You could use outputs B & C for TMCC and A & D for conventional operation. Also the 180 watt bricks supplied with you ZW may be enough power to do this without adding the extra bricks. The 5th loop would require an TPC or powermaster/ Bridge and one of your transformers.

First, Thanks to you and Al for helping me out.

It's starting to make some sense. I could just remove the jumpers from the ZW add two 180 bricks to B and C for TMCC/Legacy only. 

 

Can I still use A and D for TMCC/Legacy trains if I turn the throttle controls full power before putting power on to anything?  

 

Based on the 4 180 bricks do you think this would allow me to run a train on each 4 ovals at the same time with the remote?

 

Reference line 5, that part sound easy. Do I need additional circuit protection? Like the TMCC direct lockon ? I'll be using a CW 80. It' a smaller loop with one inner loop and only 2 0-72 remote switches on it

Yes you could use throttles A & D for trainmaster control by addressing them and turning up the voltage first.

 

4 180 watt bricks will run 4 trains on 4 independent loops easily.

 

Circuit protection is always a good idea. The CW has protection in it and mine has worked well but extra protection will not hurt. You could run a conventional engine off the CW's throttle or turn it up all the way and run a TMCC engine. Just make sure the commons from all the tracks are connected together and the CW is phased correctly with the ZW if you want to run command control engines from the remote.

I'll get my checkbook and get started. I'm getting excited about the new toy playing with remote control. I have been reading the manuals and this web site for just about three straight full days. I actually believe you guys make it easier to understand than the manuals that come with some of this high tech stuff. It is where I will be coming back to read and research many times in the future.

OK, I just received 2 TPC 300. One for each oval. If I have each TPC wired to separate transformers and separate tracks and attach the command base (RED GREEN) to the comm data on the first TPC. Can I just run a jumper from that comm data terminal to the second comm data terminal on the second TPC? Or, do I need the special Lionel controller to controller cable?
