Greetings Lionel Tech's

I  just purchased a UP Vision Genset Switcher (off that auction site). The problem is, it will not move forward or reverse.

The motor sounds increase, and the smoke output also, it even sequences the 3 stack's as the throttle is increased, but the locomotive does not move. The direction changes, as evidenced by the headlamps, but no movement forward or reverse. I'm awaiting conformation to return, but in the mean time, I'm curious what the probable cause is.

Thanks, Ray

jojofry,

Yes I did a reset, and the train brake is 'off'.

I agree, if I open it up, I guess I own it....not an option at this point.

I don't like to venture a guess but . . .

I had a similar problem with a Vision Line engine. It had been in its box a while and the drive mechanism had got stuck - probably due to excessive moisture where it was stored. I turned the wheels connected to the motor and it became unstuck.

Do the drive wheels on your engine turn if you push it along the track?

I unpacked it and attempted to turn the wheels...they would not turn. Putting it back on the track, I powered it up and 'it moved out'....but... when I brought it to a stop, and changed direction it locked up again...and would not move in either direction. It clearly has a problem, and I would guess a motor.

Thanks for the help, Ray

Ray zac,
look to see if gears have something lodged in them preventing them from turning.
Personally I would pull the shell off and disengage motor if wheels still won't turn look for something in drive train or gears preventing them from moving.

also verify motor leads are connected to terminals. and track them to connector at terminal board might be the molex connector isn't seated into its socket all the way.

cost to you your time reward a very nice engine on your layout.
you have nothing to lose and everything to gain.
only my 2 cents.

I suspect this is the problem. As I said, after forcing the wheels it actually ran for a short time, then seized up again. In any event the seller has agreed to take it back, so I will be looking for another when I get my $ back.

Thanks for the help everyone
