Your replacement will work electrically. All depends on if it will fit. Its taller but not as long.

Why do you need to replace the entire smoke unit? Is it damaged beyond repair? …..the stock unit is rebuildable.

I agree with Pat, I almost never replace a whole smoke unit, just parts.

I super glued the motor to the plastic fan housing a long time ago. when the screws got striped. I was afraid replacing the motor would damage it beyond repair.

thought about replacing it altogether. seems petes photos show the one I was looking at anyway may not fit. although the plastic fan housing used on mine shows available. when I try to add to my cart it it wont let me.

if I can get this part from lionel. can you guys recomend a fan motor for this rebuild ? the original lionel one shows unavailable.

I have oiled the fan motor bearing numerous times it still is loud. its smokes great but is so noisy it drives me crazy. so I with all your input and advice here I have decied to just try to repace the bad fan motor and fix it for good.

this was my first legacy steamer so its kinda sentimental too me. I will never sell this engine for that reason.  thanks for all help btw.

Any chance you could share the Lionel product number with us?  It's a whole lot harder guessing what you have.

Sorry john I forgot to share that. Will have to find the box. Pete thanks thats what I was looking at. The plastic fan housing shows avaialble but the motor does not. I will try to get the lionel item number to you all as soon as I get time. Thanks everybody.

Found it on the lionel web page. The item # is 6-11284 it was from 2011 v2 catolog. Hope that helps.

Roger, this is the motor. Its available. The batting is NLA.

It looks like you can buy he parts to rebuild the smoke unit, why are you doing this the hard way and trying to retrofit a different model of smoke unit?

john you are right I was going about it the hard way.

pete are we seeing the same fan motor. the parts breakdown shows the motor unavailable. see my attached sceen shot.

I can get a new fan housing, just need a repacment motor then problem solved.

The motor with the diagonal screw holes is available. I just added some to my cart. You are looking at the wrong line.

Type in the part number (minus the dashes)  at the bottom of the motor photo above.

thanks again guys. parts arrived from lionel and it is so quiet now. should have done this a long time ago. this engine will finnaly see more track time now.

I ordered a backup motor also if the replacement fan motor installed ever goes bad again.
