I have two Legacy Steam Engines, sometimes backing thru or just passing thru 054

realtrax switches the sound drops out ,if this happens on a plain old TMCC engine and it rarely does you press 3 on your trusty cab 1 and presto sound is back. There is no 3 on the cab 2 except when you start up.how do you get sound back with cab 2.I have been shutting down and starting over with engine ID ,aux 1. Do I need to install battery in these engines?

None of my other TMCC engines have batteries installed.i hate batteries

I know when I was working there had to be some IT guys sitting in a room somewhere

talking about what they could do to the IT system that would P--O Bill the next morning.

Now Lionel is doing it to me.

Hi Bill I am no pro with these things, but what I can tell you is this

happens to me also with many different engines. What I found was the points

of the switch are hiting the pilot wheels or the trailing wheels and making a short

so you lose the sound.

What I did was squezze the points in a little but you must be

extra careful because they break easy or just put batteries in

your engines.

hope this helps  ALEX

I run only conventional, so when I am running slow speeds, as when going through switches, etc., I am running at 10-12 volts to control the speed.  This is different than someone runing DCC, where they will have constant 16+ volts to the everything all the time.

Most of my Legacy locos have sound that cuts out at around 9.8 volts or so (as measured by my MTh Z4000).  At around 10- volts, as when I am running slow. the legacy sound board seems to be roight on the edge of not having enough votlae to run.  i think anything messes it up for a few seconds.

You might have a similar problem in some way.

I understand the issue with sound running conventional, but I believe the question here is running in command mode, so low voltage doesn't really apply.  The battery just handles the occasional dropout over switches.

I have very little experience running TMCC/Legacy locomotives in conventional mode, so I don't know if they'd have more problems, but I suspect the low voltage at slow speeds is probably an issue.

I'm curious why the Legacy sound won't restart, it appears the RailSounds module is getting confused.
