I believe that the squealing brake sound only comes on if you turn the red knob past zero. If you do this, and wish to stop the squeal, just turn the knob up slightly until the squeal stops. If you turn it to far up, then just turn it back down again slowly until the speed step shows zero. Then stop!

You'll probably find that with a bit of practice, you can turn the squeal on and off at will.

From the Legacy Manual...

V.T.A.B. - Velocity Throttle Auto-Brake
With your Train or Engine underway, moving the Target line to 0
with the Velocity Throttle will:
1. Enable a brake sound

2. Slow your Train or Engine to a stop at the rate set in Momentum

a. Note that it is possible to control the intensity of the brake sounds by turning the Velocity Throttle small amounts while the brake sound is enabled.

Choose between ON and OFF for this feature
NOTE These features are recommended for use at higher momentum levels. To experiment with these features, use M5 or higher. (see Momentum Set page 27). Using these features at low momentum levels is not recommended because there is not enough time to implement correct
control.
