Meeting @ 7:45
Orange Hall meeting room at 7:45
The Lionel Legacy Users Group is not associated with Lionel Trains in any way other than sharing the enjoyment and trading of information related to operating the Lionel Legacy System!
Legacy is 10 years old now and a lot of folks have become very comfortable with it's operation. Our questions have gone from pages to just one or two pages. That is a good sign.
Rather than go question by question since we have the video I’ll highlight some of the points and then the video will explain the rest.
The EDTCA did a great job of letting us use the Orange Hall meeting room. IT was a much brighter less crowded and well-lit room. Everyone seemed like they were happy with the location in both convenience and the ability to spread out a bit.
We opened the meeting with the introductions and thanks and started off reviewing the questions submitted to Lionel.
We reviewed some of the LCS partners including eTrain, a PC based application with an Android companion app. Harvey is working on a new STM2 interface and hopes to have it soon. I reminded everyone that these LCS partners are doing a lot of this work in their spare time. eTrain info can be found here.
Mike Ficco who demo’d his “Controller 2020” at previous meeting. He is looking for serious Beta testers to work with him on his system which is a simplified controller for engines, switches, and accessories. His info can be found here. Controller 2020 Info.
We also discussed the Manco Test and Buffer/Booster. Created by the forum’s own Dale Manquen,, it will test for track signal as well as provide an increased track signal. Dale is also looking for testers. Dale provided information and instructions on his setup.
Here are the links to the instructions and flyer. Manco Instructions & Manco Flyer.
I incorrectly referred to Dale as Dale Manco in the video. My apologies to Dale Manquen.
We also reviewed the High Rail app. We have been showing this app now for about the last 3 Legacy meetings. Some of the new highlights were “Favorites menu” to keep track of frequently used engines and the apps “Gesture” driven control to help limit looking at the app. Please give High Rail a 5 stars rating on iTunes! High Rail information can be found here. High Rail Flyer.
We showed some “un-cataloged” items for Legacy PDI network (for some reason I keep calling it PID). The first being a PDI network “coupler”. This small passive device will allow 2 PDI cables to be joined without needing an LCS device. This will come in handy to extend a PDI cable or when a LCS device is removed the cable can be joined up. This is available through Lionel parts. The PN is 691JOINA00.
Also we showed the PDI “terminator”. A bit mis named it is more of a filter for the PDI network. This is not always needed. Some symptoms are when the sensor track will not arm for recordings. If you are having issues the PDI terminator maybe a solution. Lionel has this part also but you’ll have to call as we do not know the part number if there is one. Found this document on the Lionel site.
We reviewed iCab 2.0. This will be a free upgrade to those who already have iCab. It is an Apple based app that upgrades 1.0 and adds more graphical interfaces, simplifies the menus, and adds support for accessories. It also adds support for the Legacy passenger trains. It also adds more support to setup an engine in the Legacy system. It is currently still in testing. Look for it on the iTunes store in the future.
The passenger train support brought out our “special guest”. Within all of the recently released 21” passenger cars is a special sound set that lets you add play value to your Legacy passenger train. Timmy and his mom are riding the rails. Timmy can converse with the conductor and other folks on the train. Timmy is also available in the sequence control. While we had some fun with Timmy during the meeting, I really think it's a neat sound sub set to add play value. I think folks running at train shows will really get some attention with “Timmy”. If you have a 21” Legacy passenger car try it!
Here are the instructions for summoning Timmy.
Special Passenger Dialog
Your Station Sounds Diner includes the voice of a special character who may occasionally board automatically when sequence control is enabled. In addition, when operating manually you can cause this passenger to board whenever you wish. When you trigger the conductor to say the “All aboard” scene, press that key a second time within a second or few and you’ll hear the special passenger board. When this passenger is on board, you’ll hear him or her interact with the conductor and steward throughout the journey, until he or she gets off at the next station.
Note: a reset command (which also cancels Sequence Control) will silence the special passenger until the next time they board.
Folks in the room found Timmy fun. Try it if you have the 21” Legacy Passenger Cars!
Mike Reagan took this this time to answer questions and comment on the current products in Lionel’s booth!
In this Q&A Mike followed up to a question about a Legacy Signal Strength Car. Mike is looking for large, multi-level layouts to test some prototype cars on. If you are interested contact Mike via email at Lionel. Mreagan(at)lionel.com replace the (at) with @.
Thank you for coming! Flyers available from all the LCS partners and 3rdparty products. Lionel or the Legacy Users Group is not responsible for the information from the 3rdparty developers. The Legacy Users Group alone presents the information given to us to further your enjoyment of the Lionel Legacy System. Please contact each developer for more information. If you are an LCS partner and would like us to sow your project contact us.
To all the products from the 3rdparty developers please correct any information or add to this thread any details I might have missed. We are here to help present your items and material and we want it to be correct!
Special thanks again to Paul K and Steve Musso for assisting, Dave Slie who recorded and editied the Legacy meeting, and Billy Ellis for use of his passenger car. We would like to thank Lionel, especially Jon, Mike, Rudy, and Dean. Thank you to Mike Petronella and the EDTCA for use of the room.
And the video of the mornings meeting...
Thanks to you especially, the Legacy Users, for sharing their experiences and knowledge both here and on the forum!
We are planning on asking the EDTCA to use the Orange Hall meeting room again in the spring if possible.
Here's a couple of videos of "Timmy" with a little more action...
