I was able to make it to my first Train show in York this year! I was amazed by what I saw and it re-kindled my interest in model trains! I currently have the Legacy S1 6-4-4-6 American Railroads version 213010 on pre-order. Possibly my favorite engine of all time! Anyway, while at the train show I stopped at the Lionel booth, I was able to hold both the Legacy Veranda and the S1 engines and I noticed that the S1 is heavier then the Veranda, although not by too much. I guess its to be expected. I'm guessing Lionel Steam engines are heavier then Lionel Diesel engines overall? It makes me wonder if the original Veranda is heavier then the new Legacy Veranda? Kinda wondering if any original Veranda owners were able to hold the new Veranda what their thoughts were? Have the metals that engines are made of changed over the years? Also, yes I pre-ordered the new Veranda Army 2133560. Honestly 2 engines from almost 20 years ago both being made at about the same time. It just figures that I decide to get into trains and here are 2 engines that I absolutely love being made again! It put a deep hole in my pocket, but I can't wait to get everything! I realize i'm rambling sorry just excited...

They are both Di-cast so I suspect they'll be pretty close in weight.
I know that my TMCC Veranda is a pretty heavy beast, but I haven't seen the new one, so I can't compare.
Yes, so I was just wondering if the Zinc content has changed over the years. Is it the exact same mold still? I hear everyone talk about the original being so heavy, but like i said in comparison to the S1 the new Veranda didn't seem heavier then it. So it makes me wonder...and this question will probably answer itself once the new Veranda gets released.
Since we haven't seen the new version, it's pretty hard to know what has changed.

Well the TMCC version had a pair of 8000 series Pittman motors for power. I'm 99.9% sure the Legacy version won't. So there's a change.

And not a change for the better!
I’m undecided. 1/2 the price old v new version. Any opinions?
It's a toss-up for me. I have the older version, and after seeing that the new version doesn't offer the same prototypical control of the smoke, I like mine and I skipped the new version. I do have an advantage in that I have all the boards for the old version, just in case.
Hmm. Well I can buy a c9 at half the price of the new. Easy decision for me. Thanks
In my opinion, the TMCC version is a great value at $500 to $600 range. Lots of play value with both function and looks. Besides the smoke unit change and motor (not for the better in the new release) the nice thing on the most recent release is the sound system improvements. I own the TMCC version and two of the new releases in different road names. The Rio Grande color is stunning. I run them with and without the oil tender.
Hmmmm. I’ll have to go listen
The difference is "OK". The new version has the super base in the tender. But you have to select the right settings. So if you operate without the aux tender, well then there isn't much difference. 🤷
