No, you will need upgrade modules preprogrammed since 1.2 does not have serial communication.
I have update Modules for V1.5 & V1.6. Can I update his directly from V1.2 to V1.6 ?
Fred
Yes, the latest update contains all previous updates
I am sure that it will need the charging update. So, it will need to be returned anyway. Let Lionel do it all.
Also, it may need the S04 IC. You have to pull the cover to peek in and determine if it does.
Thanks for your HELP. Appreciate it!!
Fred
I agree with Moonman if the charger is important to him. I suspect the charger will need updating on a unit that old. They can jump it up pretty easily. Then it will be good for all future enhancements if any.
FWIW, I have several older bases that the charger works fine. I'd check for charging function if you don't want to send it in right away. You can always send it in later, the upgrade takes a couple of minutes for both pieces since you already have the modules.
Hi All. I need some help as have the same situation here.
I'm confused as I'm trying to update from v1.2 to v1.6 the ReadMe file states:
Q: Can I update to V1.6 from LEGACY version v1.3 or earlier?
A: Yes. You can perform the upgrade yourself if you are currently running v1.2, 1.3, 1.4 or 1.5. If you are running v1.1 or earlier, contact Lionel Customer Service for more information.
I attempt to do this but LSU states: 'Communication Error - No response from base'

Correct, 1.2 cannot "write"a module using LSU. That function was not added until 1.3.
If you had 1.3 or higher memory modules, they can update the base.
It does NOT need to go back, but you need someone else to loan you a module or else use a base 1.3 or higher to write a module for updating.
Got it Vernon! I had another Legacy base that had a newer version. AND, I used gunrunnerjohn's solder tip to create my own black module! https://ogrforum.com/...es-for-legacy?page=1
Thanks to both!
