Hello bazonkers, My room is 12' wide X 27' long. The space in front of the stairs is only 1' wide and 3' long. The paneled section is for my water heater and chimney, I put a mountain on that due to limitation of accessories. That section is 2' wide and 30" long. The height is 32" high.Originally Posted by bazonkers:

Erik, do you mind sharing the size of your room and your layout height? My finished above garage space that is currently being built might look really close to what you have. Your photos helped me visualize the space!

Golly - I had no idea how neat this thread would become thanks to ALL of YOU GUYS!

(Am waiting for Nichol and perhaps Susan and Toy Train Specialist to chime in too)

It's really interesting to see these new shots of everyone's layouts - gives a whole different perspective.

I gave  Tom Elash's suggestion of holding 'control' and hitting the '+' button a try. It enlarged my whole screen and gives a LOT more detail without having to click on each group of pics in each poster's group. Try it!  I'm going back over both pages from the beginning.

Sam...most of the time, if you just right click on one of the poster's pictures and then click on "open link in new window", you will get a LARGE detailed view.  If you use Tom's method, which is perfectly fine, you also will change your viewing of the entire page including the post itself which could cause you to have to use the back and forth button/slide to read the post.  You can get it back to normal by just hitting the minus key.

Alan

Great photos and layouts guys!!

Richard...what a beautiful layout and room to show it off!  If you post more pictures, there is a choice to just before you submit that asks if you would like to put the pictures into the body of the post....check it and then we can get an even more detailed view...

Thanks,

Alan

Well after conking my noggin' on the garage door opener rail here's my little fun spot. The layout is on casters and can roll it around the garage. Just added the 2 shelves tonight. I gotta get to work doing some detailing.

Richard, I remember seeing your layout in one of the mags years ago and meeting you at Cal Stewart while you were manning the DCS demo setup. Great seeing your layout again. I have to find that issue.

Thanks, Roman. The article on my layout is in the December 2004 issue of the other publication. One could argue, however, that that layout no longer exists. Roger Carp, the article author, concluded by asking what upgrades I might imagine. I eventually decided I wanted a track plan that would allow more challenging two train bi-directional operation. Mainly, I Wanted two reverse loops in this relatively modest space. The only solution was to clear the table and start over. So then, the layout pictured in this thread dates from 2006, while the photo itself is recent. I’ve had tons of fun with it, as have our numerous guests.

I need a med- vac helicopter,  Where can I find,  I am really hunting for

copter with SHELL oil logo,  also, what are the switches, beside the #1 transf

I have a V-150, so you know that is the same style as your #1 transf--

You have to really like this style of informative thread !!!!!!!!

Great posts guys!!

Here is my layout, its in a storage room in the basement of my daylight basement rambler house.  The way the yard slopes, the room gets great light from a southern exposure.  The room is about 18 by 25 with one wall containing storage shelves that I hung doors for a more formal looking room.  The layout started as an 8 by 8 Lionel retro display, which I recently enlarged to be about 11 by  11 with a high rail look. I also added an operating display shelf layout over my workbench.  a highlight of the layout is Frank53's engine house.

It just shows one can get a lot in a small space especially when using the vertical space.  Very good!  I noticed some of the bracing for the overhead tracks like I have.  You do what you have to do to run trains!

I like your signature Bible verse too!

OddIsHeRU,I wanted to tell that I too, recall that great article on your original layout and I took a lot of inspiration from the photos and the cleverness of design. I hope the new version is as much fun for you. I have two daughters that graduated from Biola and the Torrey Honors program and they like my train obsession as well

Mike,

Very nice layout, and it looks like you have a nice collection on the shelves.  It looks like you have a liftout section at the door, since I didn't notice a swing down, out or up section.  I think I will have to do something like that, and the lift out seems the easiest way to go.
