There about to pull one of the last hand operated swing bridges left. This bridge was part of the DCL railroad shut down a couple years ago.

That is about as exciting as watching paint dry.
Thanks for posting this. We are building our retirement home nearby and its neat to know some of the local train history.
Found this webpage from the Lewes Junction Railroad & Bridge Association regarding the bridge. Here's a short video they have posted of the bridge being manually operated.

I would want to say that old bridge didn't want to let go. I helped close it once when we were on a speeder trip. I think I crossed it two or three times over the years.
Was this the last hand operated swing bridge in service? or is there one more, I thought this was the last one.
There is one left - straddles the South River, between the town of South River and borough of Sayreville in New Jersey. It's on the CSX/NS shared assets secondary - Sayreville Running Track as it's called.

And it’s is “spun” closed 3 times a week in the summer months

Only this branch was shut down and quickly changed to a bike trail. DCL lost the contract to Delmarva Central which operates the rest of the trackage.
Try, try again. they got it this time. The bridge was 30% heavier than they thought.
