I was thinking of buying a Legacy diesel and was wondering if there was a big difference in size compare to my Lion Chief diesel I have running on my layout. I thought I read that Lion Chief was smaller in size compare to Legacy. Would it look out of place to have a bigger diesel running with a smaller one? I'm a little confused about this one.

Most (but not all) LC+ locomotives are semi-scale, and will be smaller than a full 1:48 scale size. A notable exception (there may be others) is the LC+ Camelback, it is a scale sized locomotive.
As to the question if they'll look out of place, that's a question that only you can really answer. If they're totally different types, say an LC+ switcher and a Legacy road diesel of steamer, IMO they would be fine. If you had two switchers, the size difference might be a lot more noticeable.
John, I'm running a Lion Chief FT Diesel, and I'm looking at a F3 Legacy Diesel to buy from a online hobby store. It's hard to tell how much bigger the Legacy is from the picture.
The size is typically in the text descriptions on the Lionel website, look them up by the respective model numbers.
The detail level difference will most likely be great which may magnify any size issue if there is one or not.
If the LC FT is the same as the RTR FT, it's a big locomotive. I had bought my son the Santa Fe FT RTR passenger set a few years ago and MTH Rugged Rails dummy A and B F3 units for Christmas so that you could have an ABA set. That FT makes the F3s look small. And IMHO, it looks okay running near my VL BB.

The video below was published today by a Forum & OGR Magazine Sponsor.
Trainworld / Trainland®, it was filmed at "York" with a Rep. from Lionel. Meet the Rep. and see where LionChief Plus has been on the tracks and where it is going.
Model railroaders may find this helpful as related to this topic. Check out what Lionel is doing with the "B" units, picking up some of the Legacy Features.

The LionChief diesels have bodies that are the same as Lionel's so-called traditional-sized diesels, among them the FT, GP-7 and GP-9, and RS-3. All these engines are essentially scale-sized, so they look fine with Legacy engines, being about the same scale size. Specifically, the LC+ FT will be pretty close in size to a Legacy F3.

The MTH Rugged Rails series are very basic starter engines, shrunkened down in size, and are considerably smaller than O scale, whereas the Lionel LionChief FTs are about scale-sized, so the Rugged Rails engines will appear much smaller. MTH also makes larger scale-sized F3 (and FT) engines that would be a correct size match for the Lionel FTs.
