After playing with the loco a few minutes, I can conclude its a home-run!

One of the worries that were posted was the speed control lag.   On this LC+, it is very minimal, not a problem or issue.

There is a slight lag on blowing the whistle or bell.  Makes sense, because a double-top does the remote uncouplers.   I got used to it easily.   I was more worried about accidently firing the couplers while signaling with the whistle.   I can report that never happened with me.

Sound is wonderful - best sounding loco that I have.   The smoke is great, and nicely synchronized with the chuffing a slow speed.

Hi Tex - packaging was standard Lionel.   A single large orange box.   The foam was in two pieces with the blue ribbons and plastic wrapped.   The remote was inset into the top piece of foam, with its own plastic wrap and I think a blue ribbon as well.

Anyway, very nicely packaged in one box.   I was surprised at how heavy the loco was when first taking it out of the packaging.

Thanks for the "unboxing" info Ken.  Was the instruction booklet easy to understand and user friendly.  I was thinking of one of these for a fellow disabled Veteran who likes trains.  I wish Lionel would include an instructional DVD in these sets with the instruction booklet.  Lionel instructional video's are great and easy to understand.
