Again, the basic options are:
- Replace the transistor directly- the lowest cost but also might require some skill. Tiny surface mount soldering, but still DIY possible. Get to keep using the original remote.
- Replace the board (original board NLA, board from different engine)- pros, relatively easy, no soldering, however the cons are- cost and then the original remote doesn't pair up. Have to use the universal remote (or buy the matching remote to new board).
- Hybrid- buy a new board for a different Lionchief Plus RF only engine from similar series, desolder the entire smoke unit PCB (5 solder joints on the edge connection) swap into old board- now old board still works with remote but now has fixed smoke- advantage- no surface mount tiny soldering, get to keep using original remote.
- Hybrid2- desolder your vertical "personality" main processor PCB since this contains the entire radio section, main processor, sounds, and programming specific to that engine. More edge solder joint contacts than just the smoke board so more skill is required. Transplant that into the new board. Now the new board is the old board as far as the remote is concerned.- used when damage is more extensive on old board but the personality board is still intact and operational. Get to keep using the original remote- but you have more of a complete "new" board.
Again, I would minimally check current draw of the old fan motor, but more likely just replace it with a new motor. Again, from a root cause- this might be what killed it in the first place.
