I know that Lionchief operates with a fixed 18V track. Will it operate using remote control, correctly, at less fixed track voltage voltage--say 12-14V?
Thanks--Charlie N

Yep, works fine down to 11 or even 10 volts. If you have smoke, it may not work as well.
gunrunnerjohn-
Thanks for the quick info.
I have a fairly complex layout, and because of cleaning track neglect, and I am sure some not so good connections, my track voltages will run less than 18V. This does not bother me in conventional, since I like to run slow, and it avoids high speed (ie kid) derailments!

The LionChief Plus locos will run fine on a wide range of voltages, but at voltage less than 14v you may not have reliable smoke & operating couplers, and control of the whistle, horn, & bell may become spotty.

I know about the smoke, but but we never had any issues with the whistle or bell if the engine would run. I'm assuming he's using the remote as this isn't stated to be an LC+, so no couplers.
What about maximum voltage for LionChief or LionChief +?
Is voltage over the 18 vac an issue if the CW-80 is set higher than 18?
Good question Dennis, the manual says 18VAC or 18VDC, so I'd probably not exceed that by much. FWIW, my CW-80 doesn't do more than 18V at full throttle anyway.
Thanks John,
The club is using a new ZW-l and the MTH 4000's and was also wondering about the voltage there as they can get higher than 18 correct?
I'd keep it no higher than 18V, remember Legacy only wants to see 19V maximum.
Yes Lionel tends to want no more then 18V.
My NW 2 was working with smoke off at 14 volts even the electro-couplers normally.
