Re-posting here for better chance of replies (none on Lionel Service Questions thread).  Recent production LionChief2 doodlebug pickup roller found loose along with its axle in box, new.

See photo.  Suggested best way to secure the axle pin so it won't recur?  At least one other on same unit is not very snug in its end hole, either.  Thanks for ideas.

I like glue better, or maybe careful knurling of shaft end so it will have the mild interference fit that seems to be the design?  With at least one other roller a bit sloppy there, my faith in a replacement is limited.

Thanks for the idea GRJ, will try slight roughening of shaft end to help adhesion, and a tiny dab of some good quality thick ACC with accelerator.  Will do same on any other that looks ready to slip out.  Just what you need on a layout with lots of hidden track, a tiny loose object perfect for making a hard to find short circuit!   Lucky it came loose in transit…

Either warranty or get a replacement.

Not worth the effort to repair IMHO.

Well, all the parts are there, not damaged. Seems an "effort" to pack, ship, wait, risk s/h damage, maybe get back a sub-standard repair. I do like the GRJ idea of solder - or peening the flat end instead, maybe - that - or soldering - would probably require removal of the pickup assembly for safety, but so would putting on a replacement.

Got any small cotter pins....? Inserted, tidily bent on end, carefully trimmed.....? Never tried it, but I would (I do have some small cotter pins) just to see if I could, without creating a sloppy roller. Easy experiment, nothing to lose. I give it 30%.
