Hi Everybody,

I'm working on a Lionel Prewar 1684 2-4-2 that belongs to my cousin.  It was his grandfathers childhood locomotive.  At some point in its life it hit the floor and must have hit near the trailing truck.  The reverse unit had come apart inside and the cab floor broke off where the drawbar pin was pressed in.  I got it running, although the reverse unit needs some adjustment, but I'm still stuck with the fact that the drawbar pin is missing and only half the hole in the shell casting is there.  I think I have an idea of how I want to fix it (I have access to a machine shop) but was curious as to whether or not anybody else had attempted a repair like this on one of these.

My plan is to make a plate (probably from a scrap nugget of steel) that fits over the cab floor with two holes drilled to mount it to the shell casting with a machine screw and nut.  A drawbar pin would be mounted to that plate.  Is this overcomplicating things?

I'm also unsure of the diameter of the original drawbar pin.  Does anybody have one handy they could measure for me?

Thanks in advance
