Am I wrong to assume that the locomotives in the set have plastic, not die-cast bodies? Could not determine from the info in the 2022 online catalog. Thanks in advance for any info!

Almost certain that is correct if these are typical modern "General" type locos. LCCA made this set including the General and Texas some years ago in 2012 for about $400 including shipping. https://www.lionelcollectors.o...ewsStory.aspx?id=241
Fewer technical features back then, to be fair.
It has always saddened me that in the excitement of the chase, it is often forgotten that eight Union operatives were summarily executed as spies at the end of the drama after military trials, including the civilian leader Andrews. Not the happiest scenario regardless of which side you sympathize with? But the model locomotives are interesting and historic, if not prototypical. So much for the LCCA exclusivity as well. The Union soldiers who volunteered were the first recipients of the new Congressional Medal of Honor.
I would assume that they are plastic. I just got the latest Halloween General and was surprised by how light it is, and noticed the body is plastic.

Thanks for the info/informed opinions! I think I will pass.
Even the Post War Generals were plastic, no?

As I recall, the LCCA Great Train Chase set was better decorated than what's in the catalog. LCCA's General wasn't Lime Green f'instance...
