first pictures are starting to show of the engine and as expected it looks almost light blue/lightt gray and the striping is wrong--a waste of alot of money--I wont commit to anything Lionel sight unseen again---its really infuriating they screwed this up so badly

I just received an email from Mr. Muffins with picture of his custom run Dreyfuss.

It makes the " different opinions" regarding the regular production Dreyfuss even more confusing.

Anyone following the Dreyfuss discussions should check it out.

Saw the same pics…. It looks great!!  The correct color is apparently avail…. You just needed to special order it done correctly….!!  Note to self….  🙄

Steve’s is a custom run done in Mercury Service, ….So it doesn’t do do any real good with the 38 cars, …unless it doesn’t bother you, ….5344 was assigned to Mercury Service in 39 after a trip to Collinwood where she traded in her Commodore Vanderbilt gown for “Dreyfuss like” shrouding, ……there were some differences between the as delivered Dreyfuss Hudsons ( 10 of them ) vs. the in house effort done by NYC employees…..

Thanks for the info, Pat, understood.

I realize the decoration was specific to the train.

I was  just shocked to see a much more "plausible" shade of gray for any Dreyfuss. I mentioned it on this thread to avoid ruffling any more feathers on the topic.

@JR Junction Train & Hobby….  Do you have pricing up on your site?  I’m unable to locate anything about preorders (or the items in general) there…. TIA

They are not listed on our web site yet, but will be as soon as we can find a moment.  The pre-order price for the four-car sets are $431.99 and the two-car sets are $215.99.  As always, NO DEPOSITS are required for pre-orders.  E-mail your name, phone number and shipping address and us at sales@jrjunction.com to pre-order.  Thank you!

Here are two more interiors from the new Lionel 20th Century 21" passenger set. I showed the two sleepers on page 4 of this thread. The 20th Century set has two of each style sleepers plus two Dining cars. One dining car has Stationsounds. Here is the "Railway Express and baggage" and the "Manhattan Island " Observation.  Both of these cars appear to be new interior molds that I have never detailed.

I will be detailing these cars after the Christmas holidays. Right now I am listing many items in my collection on Ebay under "john.rowlen".  I will be painting a supply of Preiser 65602 Seated people and then doing the interior painting of these cars. I will post the results early next year.

Have a wonderful holiday season and a Happy New Year.  Merry Christmas!  Sincerely, John Rowlen

The passenger cars are easy to open.  There are four screws in the corners of the cars.  These cars do not have the double-sided tape that the first run of Union Pacific Excursion cars had.  The absence of tape makes opening these cars easy.  Remember the wire to the roof LED lights is usually at the vestibule door end of the cars.

The "Manhattan Island" observation is the most difficult to open because the rear coupler must be removed to access the long bolt that goes through the observation floor and into a raised nut fitting in the roof of the car.  It takes several tries to get the long bolt to enter the roof nut thread when putting the car back together.  Not impossible, just hit or miss because the nut fitting is raised from the underside of the interior roof, and the bolt does not just drop in.

Remember to have a container to put the loose screws in while the car is apart.  Searching the floor for missing screws is not fun.  Do NOT over-tighten the screws because the posts that they go into are soft plastic and can strip out if too much pressure is used in tightening them.

Have fun detailing these cars. The passengers help add visual depth to the interior of the cars.

If you haven't watched Mr. Muffins layout videos, pop some popcorn this holiday vacation and enjoy the Muffin's amazing layout.

Season's Greetings and Merry Christmas,  John Rowlen

My 20th Century  Dining cars just arrived.  Here are a few pictures of the all new interior molds in the #681 non-sound Dining car. The Stationsounds Dining Car is #680.   I could not help starting the interior painting.  The table bases are brown. The table tops white for table cloths.  The seats will be a milky pastel tan that I have used on all of the 200 plus 21" passenger cars I have detailed.  The plain factory blue interior is easier to see when tables and seats are painted.

The interior molds are new.  It is the first time I have seen this interior.  I should be able in install the Preiser 65602 seated people I am painting in this car.  This Dining Car mold has backs on the seats.  Previous Dining cars had a box cube with no seat back on the floor of the interior.  Lionel did a nice job on the new interiors for the Dining, RPO and Observation cars in this 20th Century passenger set.

Sincerely, John Rowlen

In case you haven’t seen these yet, our large shipment of Dreyfuss 20th Century Limited Hudson locomotives shipped in today.  Every one of the 12-wheel tender ones are in stock now and ready to be shipped.  The Dreyfuss designed Empire State Express locomotives are here too.

Our model railroad club members will be comparing these new MTH models with all the current and previous Dreyfuss models we can gather together.  This will include the Lionel Smithsonian, the Williams Crown Edition and several other Lionel and MTH models.  We will post side-by-side photos next weekend.
