So, I get this yesterday,  Two screws missing from the underside carriage, several paint blemishes, tweaked outside hose detailing and Marios Trains says for me to send back to Lionel for repair as they insist on seeing who in China is screwing up their QC.  I'll just find the proper screws and live with the other issues.  Quite disturbing for a $1800 purchase. I guess Covid has got these workers in China all screwed up  Oh well

Like what?  Shall I post what they said?  OK then try this...from Marios..more to the story?  Like what I'm lying?

Hi Donald-

Please see attached document.
Lionel has instructed all dealers to direct customers with quality issues directly to them. I apologize for the inconvenience, but as an authorized dealer we must follow their directive.
They are auditing their factories and want to see all problems first hand.
If you have further questions, please direct them directly to Mario at mario@mariostrains.com
Thank you for understanding.
Sincerely,
Joe

OK?????????????

Again, yes, this should go back to Lionel being a 2022 engine. I don't like that answer, but unfortunately, that's the answer given the damage.

As far as you just finding screws, the problem is that many of these locos are a combination of some imperial sized screws and threads and metric. So no, there is no universal screw and while some may look common, they are different threads and actual sizes.

Take the one screw you do have down to the local hardware store and use their screw and thread size to determine metric VS imperial, fine vs coarse thread, length and head style.

Again, could be 4-40, 6-32, metric M3, M4, M2.5

Hard to know without having the screw in hand.  If you can measure it, tell us the diameter across the threads and the thread count per inch, and we might be able to help.  Typically, I can identify screws by sight, but that's when I actually have them in my hand.  If I'm confused, I pull out one of these.

I see only a picture you sent of a missing screw (which to me is no big deal) but no pictures of the several paint blemishes and tweaked outside hose detailing that you also mentioned. To me, those would be by far the more important issues, if indeed they're noticeable. The screws you can order from Lionel, or, as others have said, frequently can get them at a good hardware store. I've found the right ones a number of times at my local Ace Hardware, and have 10 screws presently enroute from Lionel for some repairs to an older Legacy Geep (which were easy to find using the diagram of the engine at their parts site).
