I have a 2343 ABA set with the passenger cars. I took it off the shelf and remembered why it was on the shelf. Engine runs fine but will not pull the cars, just spins the tires. I have Gargreves track and thinking this has magnatraction. Am I correct?

It does have MagneTraction, but the otherwise identical non-MagneTraction 2333 pulls like an ox, so the magnets are not the issue.
How does the engine do by itself when it's not pulling anything? It could be that the cars axles need a good cleaning and lubrication. I have that engine and it always pulls away with the dummy and 4 PW aluminum cars with no sweat.
