I was wondering what information people can offer about this set from 1958. I tried to research it and found most web sites to say that the complete set was rare and not many sets were produced by Lionel. Apparently, the selling price for such a set was high. What can anyone tell me about this set?

This was a Super O set, and came with a 400 (RDC-1) powered unit, and one of each of the two different non-powered units - 2559 (RDC-1) and 2550 (RDC-4). I believe this was only one of two cataloged sets consisting of the Budd cars. This set including the rare 2550 car makes it the more desirable of the two cataloged sets.
I have the 400, 2559, and 2550. Only the 400 still has the box. It was from long gone Stevens Hardware located in a Boston suburb. The hand written price on the box is $17. RICH
When did the 404 come out?
It was available in 1957 and 58 only.
