can you run a Lionel’s prewar 252 electric loco or any other electrics on 0-27 track? Thanks for any info.

If the wheel flanges are deeper than post-war wheel flanges, the answer is no.
As a kid, my brother and I had pre-war "O" gauge Lionel. My friend had a post-war O27 set with O27 track. One day I took my trains to his house to run them on his layout. The wheel flanges hit the O27 ties.
The 252 and other prewar electrics will run fine on O27. Run them all the time. The locos may have problems running on postwar switches due to the depth of the gears and height of the guard rails. The 1121 O27 switches don't have this problem (point and frog swivel; no guard rails or frog).
Thanks Jon G appreciate it.
Yea Jon G I use 1122 switches so the 252 electric probably wouldn’t work on them?
Just to toss it in; there are flange issues for 0-27 and on Super O for other Lionel engines top.
Bottoming on SO rail holders,/an "inverted staple" ;and in turnouts- depth wise and with an añtiderail contact tab that rubs all wheel backsides.
The SO tab rules out any fat drivers where gear O.D. reaches to the edge of wheel flange O.D. 100%.
Fat divers can only pass straight with the driver along the long rail on 1122; i.e. one direction and no turns.
Also mind the roller position/width as some O tollers may actually fall off the center rail of 0-27. (there is "curve overhang" on rollers; worse if roller sits farther from wheel to track contact points)
So NONE of the Prewar electric locos will work on 1122 switches?
I just picked up a 248 yesterday which putters along on an O27 42" oval quite cheerfully. No switches involved, however.

Jon, the pre-war madison cars I had as a kid, had pressed sheet metal wheels. The flanges hit every tie on my buddies O27 track.
Thanks, my main concern is the 1122 switches. Hope fully someone here had had luck with a certain model prewar electric loco on the 1122’s.

Just ran the 248 with the 607/8 consist through two 1122 and a 1022 switch, complete with O27 reverse curves. Long as the speed isn't excessive, the train bounces through both the straight and curved parts of the switch without any undue stress. The flanges do bounce on the switch base a bit, but otherwise works well...

Thanks so much for taking the time to do this Mitch! It answered my question. I don’t plan on going fast. Appreciate it. Dennis
