for a while now I have been wanting to get one of the 6-19820 Railsounds 2 tenders to run behind my postwar 736, I’d like for the whistle to be one of the N&W hooters like the one on 1218, as it’s my favorite whistle. so is it possible for the chip to be swapped? Or do I have to do a lot of complicated wiring? Just thought I’d ask before I actually go looking for the tender. Thanks

I don't believe you can use the RS4 chips from the Class-A in a RS 2.0 board. They should will work in a RS 2.5 board, but obviously that will be a board swap. You could also drop in a RS4 motherboard and use the Class A RS4 chips in some RS4 boards. There will be some wiring involved.

Ok thanks. So I actually wanted to build a custom Vanderbilt style tender shell to fit onto the RS2 tender chassis. But now that I think about it, I might just build the whole thing from scratch. How much do the RS4 motherboards usually go for? this is the 736 in question, renumbered to 508, added white walls and a custom boiler front with flying air pumps, which is actually a junked 675 front turned upside down.

Yeah Im not the best at scratch building :/
Well, for RS4, you'll need to find not only the motherboard but also the RS4 board and the RS Generic Power Supply board. The whole bunch will probably be $100-125. None of them are available from Lionel, so you also have to locate a source.
