I have a Lionel 2-6-0 (6-38018) Wabash Mogul steam locomotive. It is an older version with TMCC.

My question is this… What prototype engine was this modeled after by Lionel?

I looked through some internet photos but I haven’t been able to spot the particular design  engine. There is usually a certain “real” locomotive that was used as the subject for the model.

Thanks for any input.

Tom, I know a bit about the model, not so much about the prototype but it is close to a NYC E-1 class. Lionel lettered their first NYC TMCC model 1924 which is a E-1e.

I later picked the engine you have and relettered it for NYC 1916 class E-1c.

I was lucky in that Lionel had done a ten wheeler and lettered it 1916 so I was able to get 1916 headlights and front number emblem.

I think many of the Moguls built around then were pretty similar. Hard to find pictures of NYC Moguls but I did find 1916 on the internet. None of my NYC books show any other than the fact that they had a few dozen. I can email it to you as pics are verboten here.
