They sound like the NS SD70ACe engines that go through Bethlehem Pa on the Lehigh Valley line. I have never compared them side by side but my tin ear says they are good.

Well, I have been thinking, this is a nice re-run of similar SD70ACE's made in 2007-2008-2009 etc.,and I agree, the sounds are better, that's a change, the horn sounds uniquely better, a big change, the wheel flanges are better as they do not jump through switches. Now, although these are nice changes, and after reading the catalog one more time, it was never stated that this engine would have the new fixed style pilot trucks. Well, it cost the same as the SD45 Southern hi hood engine that's in the same catalog, wonder why this engine was not upgraded to the fixed type pilot trucks? Just wondering. Happy Railroading.
Visited dealer yesterday to pick up the BNSF version. Very disappointed in the bright orange color, especially on the cab area. Of the two UP, one BNSF, one demonstrater version they opened, 3 had broken snow plow parts. Not impressed

FWIW, a couple of years ago I found a dealer who still had a brand new Polar Express SD80MAC locomotive. When it arrived, the snow plow was broken. 
I called Lionel, and they quickly shipped me a replacement snow plow at no charge (after I emailed them a copy of my sales receipt). Excellent service!

I suspect, but have no facts, that 75% of physical damage, including loose boards, occurs in shipping. Better shipping components could cut down on some of the damages but I'm sure this nothing new to the manufacturers. Trying to get some of this across an ocean, and then across the country, then to you is probably on their minds.
One of the engine packaging that stands out recently is the VL GG-1. This engine was a candidate for a top / bottom Styrofoam package especially when trying to remove and re-package the engine. Probably a cause for some of the brake lines being broken off. Perhaps this is cause for the plows?
Don't get me wrong, engines are ok, just not up to the standard and detail of the last ES44 engines for the same price. I just recently started buying new diesel locos, so I am use to vision and legacy steam engines with more detail. I guess it's a learning thing for me.
Jim911, I agree with your comments about the amount of detail, however I am not complaining on the color, because all of the Diesels are different colors, in real life, but, the ES44's have more detail... I really feel these nice engines should have had the newer coupler system like the other scale Diesels. My UP Diesel came in with no damage, runs superb, sounds are amazing, new horn is three tone fine. Everything considered, I am very happy...

I paired mine up with the two SD60Es (vets and 9-1-1) it was quite a sight.
When the replacement snow plow comes in I will pair it up with the demonstrator version and post a video
What is the road number for the Lionel 6-84096 BNSF SD70AC?
Some websites have the road number #9300 and others show #9372 with a photo.
The 6-94097 is BNSF #9385. What is the number of the 6-84096 as actually produced ?
Please respond if you own the 6-84096 or have a picture of your engine.
(This might be like the Atlas O F7ABBA #41LABC that was listed in Atlas literature as #45LABC.)

The numbers are 9372 & 9385. Received mine today with the MRL's. The MRL's are very nice. Have not had time to take them out of the box.

The BNSF orange does seem very bright. I guess I would like someone to confirm if it's super bright compared to the older one from 2008.
I do wish they had the kinetic pilots like the all the hype on the SD40, SD45, and already on the ES44AC.
Also saw a video of these new ones earlier. I noticed the crew talk for the startup has different words and the horn seems much better sounding than some of the BNSF SD70Ace heritage units with the generic legacy sounds.
I wonder if Lionel produced alot of these SD70Ace's from the catalog and if the extras the dealers have will sell out like hot cakes?
I don't own a older version of the BNSF SD70ACE since those had the wrong roof color so I can't compare. I do own a Diecast ES44 and the new SD70ACE is brighter. Can maybe get some pictures later. I was sorta concerned until I went out and looked at BNSF SD70ACE on line.
But as you can see the SD70ACE's are brighter than earlier BNSF units. I found many pictures that look like this. I think they look great.
I really like the Montanna Rail Link. Here are a few pictures I shot last night.
The front end is really cool. They did a great job of getting the headlights in the right place. I noticed that the MTH version had that wrong.
Something about Zebra Striping that always makes a engine look really cool.

Keep in mind the BNSF color scheme will have many different shades on the real deal. The first SD70ACe's arrived on BNSF rails back in 2004 almost 13 years ago. Bigger orders of 100 or more started in 2005 from Union Pacific.

Ok here are some pictures of the BNSF and Montana Rail Link taken outside today.

Here is the Die cast ES44 for comparison. I forgot how heavy the Die Cast unit was.
As you can see they are different. But I can find many pictures of ES44's that look like the above and many pictures of the SD70Ace in this darker scheme.
I even find ES44's in the brighter/darker scheme similar to the SD70Ace. I am sure Orange probably fades quit easily. So I am sure there are many shades of orange on BNSF engines in a single yard. I always like to look on the positive side of things, but let the expert opinions begin! Fire!

I wouldn't be very happy with the "new" orange Lionel decided to use. They should match the ES44s by all means. Same wrong orange that they decided to use on the GN locos. These aren't weathered locos so " faded" paint is not an issue. Whatever. Not sure what is going on with them.....

The bright orange is spot on for the new SD70's I've seen. Lots of different shades of BNSF locos around the OKC area. Don't think it's incorrect at all.

I wonder why they didn't use the newer paint job for the MRL? It was done all the way back in 2011.

That version of the MRL will be next and I will want one of those to mix in with this version of the MRL. Never ending.......
Just visited the Seattle BNSF yard, huge turntable, and many different shades of orange, most of which were the brighter color we are seeing on the new SD70 Lionel engines. When I get back there I'll take a real camera
