I recently purchased a Lionel LNE Alco S2 (2433330). When I put in smoke fluid it doesn’t go in quickly like all my other engines. I also find the fluid pools up around the outside of the smoke stack and down the inside of the shell. I removed the cabin and looked inside and noticed what looks like an angular 90 degree funnel to the smoke unit. I also find the smoke fluid lingers inside this funnel and prevents a good flow of smoke. I’m learning but have little knowledge about the mechanics of engines. Is this normal for an engine with an offset smoke stack? I’m going to try using the tube that came with the Labelle lube kit. I curved the end to bypass the funnel slide and get the tip closer to the smoke fluid/exhaust port. If this doesn’t work, this may be a smoke free engine.

I have the earlier TMCC version of this locomotive.  The trick is to add the fluid very slowly.  If you add it quickly a bubble forms in the smoke unit opening preventing the fluid from getting in.

Your flexible tube might work but it would have to be all flexible to get into the smoke unit opening.  Also the funnel is 2 pieces, bonded, but you don’t want to fiddle around.  You don’t want to have to open this locomotive, it is the definition of PITA.
