Here’s another video with a few AmFleet cars in tow.
Awesome @rplst8 !! Thanks for the videos, too!!
From whom did you preorder or buy it from? If you feel more comfortable emailing me that info for my email is in my profile. I’m Just wondering because I preordered the Phase IV powered unit and PH V NPCU and CANNOT WAIT till they arrive!!!
I’ve been toying around in my head with the idea of getting this Phase 1 F40PH in Amtrak phase 3 to go with the first batch of Lionel F40Ph. The answer to that is Depending on my satisfaction level with the aforementioned preorders AND satisfaction that I finally feel I have the potential to make my desired combos of Amtrak motive power.

Awesome interior too. How are the smoke units on these?
It smokes pretty well so far. I ran it for about a half hour and it’s still alive. I also tested with Bluetooth and everything seemed to work.
Adding smoke fluid is a mess though.
Really nice engine! Have fun with it!
I've never been into the Passenger Train thing. But, I'm starting to see that it's cool stuff.
So, a couple of other notes on these new F40PH locomotives:
- I’ve noticed they are on the lightweight side. I measured mine and it comes in at 3 lbs and change, while a slightly older, but similarly sized Legacy F7 I have is well over a pound heavier. I only have four AmFleet cars to pull, and don’t plan on getting any more. It pulls those just fine. That said the ones I have are all plastic versions from an early MTH release.
- The kinematic pilots are nice, however they don’t have strong centering spring, so they often look a little crooked even when on a straight section.
- The gear mesh on the driving wheels is abysmal. I’m really hoping this doesn’t become a problem later.
Another thing that isn’t so much a problem with this model per se but don’t expect a match on the Amtrak red, white, and blue.
I know the blue of the MTH AmFleet cars from this run is too dark, no doubt, but I think the blue Lionel used is too light.

Mine arrived from Charles Ro yesterday! I accidentally pre-ordered two of them, thankfully in different road numbers (#206 and #226). I had cancelled part of an order which contained one, then, thinking I had cancelled the whole order, placed a separate order for another. I'm calling it a happy accident but I'm not sure my wife agrees
They're beautiful models and mine have been running pretty much flawlessly so far! Smoke and sounds are very good and the horn is one of the best I've ever heard. These are my first locomotives with kinematic pilots and I really like them. I think it's a great compromise between the desire for more realistic fixed pilots and the smaller-than-desired minimum radius imposed on most of us by our space limitations.
Here are some photos and videos of the handsome pair!

Gorgeous! Love the layout in progress too!
While in motion press emergency stop#5 on legacy controller. Light should flash red
Is the hatch easier to open compared to previous run of these?

Yes, mine has been smoking great so far, no complaints. The first thing I do with most engines is to crank the smoke level to high. I had to turn this one down to medium.
The horns are good I agree. I liked one of the alternate ones more so I changed it. It would be nice if they included a description of which horn is what. Not a complaint, maybe a suggestion. One is obviously a single note horn like on first generation diesels, but I wonder if the other ones are three or five chime, Leslie or Nathan, etc. The one I settled on is either the one after the default or the one before I can’t remember.
Did anyone get the cabbage? I’m curious to see if the door opens up or not and if it smokes to?

Just an idea. Assuming the Lionel sounds are faithful to the prototype. You can search the prototype horns on youtube and hazard a guess as to which horn is which.
The new version is much better than the Legacy F-40 Lionel released a few years back. Headlights are a brighter white light than the older version that seemed to have a yellowish color to them. Engine sounds are richer and deeper and horn more realistic. Smokes very good and Bluetooth commands are great. The stripe colors are spot-on as compared to the older version.

I love this idea. I have these nendless droppers that I use for grease. Never thought of to use it for smoke fluid. This will be especially helpful for some of the engines that require a little funnel to help guide the smoke food.👍🏼

I think someone on one of the many youtube reviews commented on the horns. I'm almost positive one is an S3L (my second favorite horn) and the opposite end is a K5LA. I think I read before that there's a P5, and I'm not sure what the other two are.
Looks a lot like my earlier Legacy F40PH, hope it doesn't go up in flames like some of the earlier run did.

Agreed with the sounds, but the yellowish headlight was actually more prototypical on the earlier run. The incandescent headlights and number boards were very yellowish on the real thing. I was sad to see they dropped that attention to detail for the standard bright white LEDs on the new run.
Also, I was unaware the stripes are different colors between the two runs. Both look good to me. Does anyone have both to compare?

Agreed they could have used a LED that mimics a bulb.

Literally, or figuratively speaking?
Excuse the floor dust; the joy of having two German Shepherds share your house (and sleep on your track).

Well, pretty literally. They ran track power across the top of the cab over the bare flywheel. When the flywheel rubbed the insulation off the wires, the sparks flew and the board died.
