Have any of you taken apart a modern Lionel animation that failed? My Boy on Tree Swing just quit working. It's getting power to the Fahnstock clips underneath OK. I didn't go any farther.

Best advise buy a new one if you like it, all that group of animations Lionel made, if used regularly have failed in time, no parts available. And I love Lionel!!!!
Thanks for your interst. Loved the tour of your B&SRR.

I'm afraid I agree with "buy a new one". With my "men sawing wood" and the large "playground" the tiny motor could not deliver power anymore ( it would only spin if no drag was on it).
Thanks all, for stepping up to this. Guys like you make this forum such a great resource.

Rick if I had a bad circuit board they charge 25.00 plus shipping and right now there is a brand new one on the e.... for 35.00 whats a better value? The accessory has poor longevity.
Ideed Don, it was merely a reply to you mentioning "they have no parts". I never said it was a better value.
Guys,
The motors, in these accessories can be found on the Lionel Replacement Parts Site under key word; DC Motor / Miniature. There is only 1 round squat motor available under several part numbers, depending upon which worm gear it has. The voltage regulator inside these accessories can be replaced with a 691REG5A00. This is set at 5VDC, but the regulator can be replaced with a 6, 7, 8, 9 volt variation to support the accessory it is used for.
While the parts lists for these accessories is extremely lacking (mostly because our attention has been focused on older locomotives and current production). This will be resolved in the future, sorry for the delay!
If anyone has one of these small vignette accessories and needs it repaired we can repair them at Lionel Customer Service for a labor charge of $20.00 plus parts, or you can pick up the parts and repair on your side.
Not everything is a loss when it stops working!
Thank you,
Mike
I believe I can help out here. My tree swing also failed. I took it apart the hard way, disassembling a lot more than I needed to before I found the problem. In all likelyhood, the problem is in the base, not the top of the tree, so leave that alone. It is not designed to come apart anyway.
Pull the three screws out of the bottom and remove the base. Clean the grease off the worm gear (attached to the motor) and take a good look. If it is like mine, it is stripped. If that is the case, you are out of luck, as Lionel does not have any replacement wormgears. (BTDT!) The only chance you MAY have is if you get find the correct replacement from Northwest Shortline (NWSL). They make many gears for the HO market, and you might have hope here. Otherwise, convert it to a static model and go buy a new one.
I have attached a pic of the tree with the bottom off, showing the offending gear.

Another source for that gear might be a local hobby shop the specializes in RC cars and models. Pull the motor off and try to match up the gear.

It looks like the same gear, try 620-4137-155. Lionel or Brassuer has in stock.
Or 610-4199-050 complete gearbox with motor.
Thank you all so much. Maybe I canget my little guy back in the swing of things!
