Any word or pix of the coming Lionel (scale) 89' auto carrier ?

The lionel blog has a good article with some pictures for the new 89' auto racks. They look great but, sadly, I have smaller than 54" curves so they're a no go for me. Here is the link to the blog and a pic:

What about letting them sit on a siding?
I have O72 and O54 curves, but at $110 MSRP per car, I am going to wait until they make the exact railroad graphic schemes like the Grand Trunk Western all-blue sides and C&O/Chessie System on a TTGX Trailer Train Flat.

Not a bad idea but my layout is all about play value right now and any car that my kids wouldn't be able to pull wouldn't be worth the cost.
As I grew up in Windsor, Ontario right across from Detroit auto carriers were the most common rolling stock I used to see so I would love to have some on my layout.
Anyone know of other non-scale auto carriers that came out in the past that would work on O 36 curves?

Lionel made those O Gauge auto carriers that are HO Scale length and S Scale height.
I have some of the two tier traditional sized auto carriers.
Lionel also made a three tier model.

Back in 2004 Lionel had a set out that had 3 nice looking auto carriers in it. I do not recall them bringing out any additional cars for the set. And the set could be operated on O31 track.

Thanks guys I will look for those earlier standard O variants. I really like those UP variants as most of the carriers I see in SoutherN Ontario are UP, CN, CP and CONRAIL.

I am also interested in getting these, but would like to see more of the schemes that are currently on the rails, especially yellow ones.
The part of the catalog announcement that intrigued me was that they are going to follow up with automobiles that will fit in the auto racks. Does this mean that I will soon be able to buy modern cars in 1:48 scale for placing on roads around my layout? Since I refuse to place 1:43 vehicles on my layout, I am looking forward to the possibility!!!

I believe these are the open end cars. When were the open end cars stopped be used by the railroads?
It would be great to have a ZZ Top auto carrier with die-cast 1/48th scale replicas of all the ZZ Top custom automobiles from the past 30 years. Lionel is now in the business of die-cast scale autos, so they could sell them to several markets.
