I have two of these modules with 1.4 upgrade one for base and one for cab 2.
Can I use these modules to get latest upgrade to 1.6 or do I need new modules ?

If you have Black Modules, you can over write the 1.4 with the 1.6 (Base) and 1.61(Cab2) software. You can find it at the links here...
The 1.60 package comes with 1.6 (Base) and 1.6 (Cab2). You need to download the 1.61 (Cab2) separately.
I have a Legacy system that I bought from a forum member about a year or so ago, does it come with these modules and if not, how do I go about getting the latest software upgrades for my system. I haven't opened the box yet because I don't have a layout to set it up on but I'm thinking of doing a couple of carpet centrals just to see some of my engines run.

Depending on how new the system is, it may have come with a Black Module. As long as you are doing the upgrade with the unit on site with you 1 is all you need. You make and upgrade the Base first and then re-write the module for the Cab2 upgrades.
If it didn't come with a Black Module they can be purchased at most of the forum sponsors or your LHS.
If you don't want to make your own module for upgrading Charles Ro, Imperial Trains, and other LHS carry them pre-programmed but you will need 2 modules, 1 with Base Software and one with Cab2 software. Most people not computer savy use this option.
