My engine seems to make a sound that sounds like a car stuck in a low gear when moving. Another way to describe the sound is like a hum again, when the engine is moving. My other Lionel Berkshires that came ready to run set do not have a similar sound.

Locally, a bunch of these sold through the local shop and many of them I had to perform the same repair. The Lionchief drawbar system carries the speaker signal from the board in the engine to the speaker in the tender. On this specific engine, when they wrapped up the wiring installing the board in the plastic bracket, they used these clear rubber tension bands around the lionchief circuit board and the mount and then bundled up the wiring- often pulling far too tight the wire for the speaker through the drawbar connector so that when the drawbar swings left and right, it yanks hard on this wire. This often causes a break in the wire right at the solder joint of the connector under the heatshrink around the drawbar connector. If that wire touches frame metal- like the drawbar- that is at an AC potential and would cause hum.
If it's not that- the other thing I could think of is the flywheel spinning on the motor at higher speeds- could make a vibration or hum.
So- posting a video of the engine running and the exact sounds or problem might be better for troubleshooting. Also, do the other sounds works- whistle, bell, announcements?
Thanks. Yes, the sound system work for all expected sounds--chuff, bell, whistle, and announcement. I will see if i can get a video and sound.
Mr. Barry,
I am still trying to link a video to this post but having difficulty reducing the file to the max file size. I know something is wrong with the engine so I will send it to a professional for assessment and repair.
Thanks again for your earlier response.

It's not terribly difficult to create a YouTube account, upload video there and link it, if that'd help.
