Hey everyone! First off thank you for the overwhelming amount of knowledge and support you give! After all the help with audio amp replacements, ps2 and ps3 troubleshooting, legacy questions etc, ive gone backwards and down the rabbit hole of restoring conventional locos now lol
I have a new to me Lionel Classics 44E freight set #6-51001 from 1989. Gears were frozen shut, complete teardown. Lots of smiles/miles on this loco atleast!
The motor armature was rubbing against a rivet inside, damaging the windings enough to remove a small trace of winding. I grinded down rivet smooth etc.
Ohms test to confirm as it was running at 2-2.4 amps and sparking alot. (Did clean everything from wheels, gears, motor, e-unit, pickups, new brush springs etc)
A-B= 2.3
A-C= 2.4
B-C= 1.4 ohms
Being curious/bored late lastnight i soldered the missing gap in the winding and everything ohms out equally at 1.3 -1.4 ohms all around. Is this a "valid" repair or totally a bad idea?
My main problem is i dont have the manual or can find one anywhere to order a replacement armature. (Hence the dumb idea to solder it lol)
As always thanks for the help!
