@Official Lionel Trains, @Dave Olson, @Conrail6358
Lionel has offered 2-6-2 Prairie steam locomotives in their 2024 catalog on page 100. The offered road names are Santa Fe, PRR, & US Army.
Notably absent from these road names is CB&Q. The 2-6-2 Prairie wheel arrangement was given the name Prairie because it was introduced to the US by CB&Q for use on the prairies of IL, IA, NE, & MO.
In the book "CB&Q in Color, Volume 1" (Al Holck, Four Ways West) on page 18, there are color photos of 2-6-2 Prairie steamers #2149 & #1987. The prototypes were black with gold lettering, red cab roofs, silver smoke box, silver fire box, and Burling Route herald on the tender (red, black, & gold).
Unfortunately, all of CB&Q's prairie locomotives were scrapped; none survive today.
Per the Steam Locomotive Roster Summary on BRHS' website, the following are the five classes of CB&Q prairie steam locomotives:
Class R1 (1900): #1700 - #1703
Class R2 (1901): #1710 - #1769
Class R3 (1902): #1800 - #1849
Class R4 (1904 - 1906): #1900 - #2049
Class R5 (1906 - 1907): #2050 - #2224
Maybe one of the major dealers could sponsor a custom run of a CB&Q 2-6-2 Prairie in road number #1987 or #2149 ?
