Here it is, the new engine. Looks like a UP for me

While I'm not into all the newest of the new anymore, may I ask what is the difference between the "Superbass" and just a regular model? I see the "Superbass" versions are less when I thought they would be more, just my observation though. I I were to purchase a model, not this particular one, but any model, should I get the Superbass or the regular version? Thanks in advance.
I'm excited! Finally, a GE/Wabtec ET44 in O-Scale! I plan to order at least one of the BNSF ET44C4 versions, and maybe a UP version in the future. Plus, the BNSF units have the truck details that I was hoping for. I was still hoping for rotating bearing caps on these engines. That would make them amazing! The control stands in the cab of these engines is such a cool addition. Hopefully the cab roof will be removable to allow operators to see the details like Lionel did with their Vision GEVO Hybrid. The 4-Digit Addressing will be awesome with the Base 3/Cab 3 (which I have on order).
Other paint schemes and variations needed:
-CN Heritage Units (now Lionel has the accurate ET44AC locomotive to make these units, instead of using the ES44 tooling)
-UP New Corporate Livery
-Military and Fantasy Paint Schemes
-Also hoping for the new BNSF ET44ACH units in the future
Saw there will be platform/walkway lighting. That should be a cool features. In for an NS and UP.

I always thought SuperBass models were unpowered models.

They are. They include all of the legacy features just without motors. They have a more robust speaker system.

It's in the description on the Lionel page. They have an extra speaker and enclosure, no motors.
I'll be in for several ET44's. I hope manufactures take note and start producing more modern equipment in both locomotives and rolling stock.
a long time dream of a legacy et44 has come true for me but it came at a time where i'm broke as heck with 20 grand in student debt and not knowing if i can even hold a regular job being autistic with cerebral palsy.
800 bucks is really steep but if i went for one it would probably be a CSX one because i've caught about 3 different times railfanning
Very excited for these! Will be ordering BNSF, CSX, NS, and KCS.
I was hoping they would have rotating bearings like the Scaletrains HO models but the lighting and cab interiors are exciting.
ET44C4 in Santa Fe please. Preferably blue and yellow freight bonnet. Maybe Mr Muffins so a special run? Pats would probably do a black bonnet if he did a Santa Fe special run.

Pat already announced his black bonnet
I’m in for CN! Possibly a NS too. These are very cool! We haven't had this much detail in a new Lionel modern diesel since the original vision line ES44 hybrids and gensets. The new lighting features are very cool too!

It is a hybrid, they have a mouth bigger than a Largemouthbass and are only found in Florida and Georgia swamps

Ha! Mr muffin has SUPERBASS 🐟 too! 😂
I usually don't model the current day era of railroading, but something about these locomotives is quite endearing, nonetheless. I may or may not order one since they don't fit my preferred time period, but I will say I commend Lionel for taking what looks like a lot of time and effort to making these familiar yet popular, current day locomotives, and I'm sure they'll get their money back and then some for awhile out of the tooling.
Nice! I'll have to get a CSX. If they get the blue right.
Lionel seems to have outdone themselves a bit with this model. The walkway and platform lights are a nice touch and the DPU light on the CN version is a welcome feature. And they finally have a ES44/ET44 BNSF loco with the correct "C4" style trucks. Seems I will have to order 2 from the catalog, a BNSF and CN.
My only minor concern is if they will get the dimensions correct, as the ET44s are around 1.5 feet longer than an ES44. Which translates to the model being 1/4 to 3/8 of an inch longer. But also that the CN version has special anti-ice walkways along the side of the long hood that have grates to prevent water from pooling on the walkways and freezing. I hope those are at least simulated on the CN version, having them see through would be an incredible detail!

Lionel posted a video of the models on facebook. They are slightly longer models than the es44s.
Yes and they also said CN will have the elevated walkways. Really tempted to get a CN but can't buy 5....
Alright I think I've got my list. 1 powered and 1 Superbass of UP/CN/BNSF and 1 powered of the CSX. I'd love to get even more but it's pushing 5k for those alone. I'll put my money where my mouth is for this sort of stuff. Atlas took a big chunk from me for the new Autoracks. More modern equipment please and thank you.
Finally! I'm glad I held off ordering the CN Heritage Units with the ES44AC. That said, hopefully some time in the near future Lionel will re-issue them with the correct ET44AC. Nice to see some new tooling for a modern diesel.

The superbass diesels are non powered units with a robust sound unit in them giving a deeper prime mover throb. Jence the reason why they are a little less than powered legacy units.
Congratulations to all those that are ordering this unit. Unfortunately its beyond my modeling era so my wallet is safe for know. Still recouping from the American Orient Express set.
So hyped to see this announced today! Ordered a CN powered unit and an NS superbass. Hopefully they show up next year like they mentioned in the video, my wallet needs some time to recover 😂
The only version missing from the brochure is the GE Demo ET44ACs with both the plain blue and the green and blue liveries. Those would have required the more boxy long hood styling to be tooled.
i tell you what would be awesome for a future run would be scale versions of the Fast Fright Service tier 4 and hopefully by that time i'll be able to snag 1 or 2 or 3 . Buddy Jack the pumpkin head needs to deliver a lot from Salem Cider Works and help annoy Fenix Starr and Dakoda Dale Parrish

I agree, that was a missed oppurtunity for the first release. But I can see why they instead choose all the class 1 railroads as part of the first production run, more people would be interested in those than a GE Demo version. But I suspect that one will come in a future rerun

Thanks PRRhorseshoecurve, much appreciated for the detailed answer.
love this announcement. hope to snag all three are at least two bnsf models. this model along with walkway lights has been in HO it seems forever. so at least now finally lionel is steping up and doing it right. this should be a home run for them.
There are so many I want, but only a few I will buy.
I am looking at 1 CSX, 1 NS, and 1 BNSF. The other models are cool though. A CN would be tempting.
i just watched the video these look great, I'm considering the CSX. At the end of the video, Ryan said that in about another month there will be another video with another all new tooling engine.
I placed my pre-order with trainworld for a CSX powered and CN Superbass. I'll just have to put a little extra into my hobby account each month, that's all lol.

Yeah. He said next month. Hopefully it will be a Siemens Charger with all the lighting features, accurate sounds, and 4-Digit Addressing (plus matching Siemens Venture and Superliner Cars). I'd also love a Progress Rail/EMD SD70ACe-T4.
Also coming soon is a Demos With Dave on the Base 3. Dave said that would be coming sometime next week or the week after.
FWIW when they mentioned the upcoming announcement, Dave said he was "exhausted" and Ryan sighed so I assume it was a joke about the upcoming model. Maybe a Charger?
There are many posts hoping for a Siemens Charger. For Lionel to make the Charger Locomotive they have to get a license from Siemens. Lionel has tried to get a license from Siemens, but for whatever reason Siemens has refused to grant Lionel permission to make models of their products. Thus, unless there is a significant change in policy from Siemens, Charger locomotive from Lionel is highly unlikely.
Does anyone know the MINIMUM CURVE Lionel is recommending for this engine as I haven’t been able to find it anywhere?

Chargers are available for pre order from 3rd Rail
Thanks @Grampstrains. 👍
Just preordered a BNSF ET44C4 from Trainworld! Now, I have to wait patiently until early next year (oh, well). So excited, by the way!

Superbass is a non powered.
