NOW NICE !!!
I wonder what the "increased complexity" is?
WTH, increased complexity working with the Eastern Division??????? Is that a shot across the bow???
Sounds like an excuse not to attend.
The EDTCA continues to shoot itself in the foot.

You got that right! What a circus!

I know, everything is clear with what dealers have to do to register. My guess is the "increased complexity" is due to them not attending the past meet and has to do with one of more of:
- wanting early registration price after 8/1
- needing all folks manning the booth to be TCA members
- not happy with booth location due to not attending prior meet
Either way, it's poor form to publicly put out that statement worded in that way.

It's crap period the hands that put thousands of dollars in their pocket get screwed and instead get crapy infomercials with bad humor, poor production and sketchy product information and do it thru sometimes free dealer infomercials. Am I wrong?
I think those that are trashing Lionel might want to reserve comment until you know the whole story. Just sayin'.

same for those trashing EDTCA.
I hate to be picky, but sitting at my computer and looking as a video is not the same as seeing and hearing stuff in person.
Can't we all just get along?

Regardless it's a no win for all of us.

And besides other things they need proofreaders for their announcements. Read the first paragraph again.

Maybe Lionel reserved the option..."will be/not be"...attending? 😁
John
The bottom line is probably that Lionel no longer feels it necessary to spend the money to come to the show, they have little competition right now. They're just going to pocket all that loot, the bean counters win again.

You are right without brand purple touting it's horn brand orange doesn't feel threatened. York is going back to its roots minus manufacturers.
John wrote exactly what my first take on Lionel's motive was... give me your money and then shut up!
I could care less…
I would withhold judgement on what the real reason is until someone from EDTCA responds. “increased complexity” are Lionels words. Personally, the folks I would be interested in talking to at the show have long ago left the company.

I agree.

Don,
I am embarrassed to admit I missed that on my first and second reading. I didn't put on my proofreading hat! But when I am required to do so, my technique is to read the text out loud, word by word, to another person. That usually catches it. (I usually don't read forum messages to my wife!)
Regarding the Lionel vs EDTCA, no one can say who is more at fault until we truly understand both sides of the story. Guess I'm being politically correct here (or just wishy-washy).

The proofreading comment made me laugh. So sloppy for a major announcement.
My 3 cents (adjusted for inflation)... Knowing how ED has rebuffed SGMA's offer to set up the hugely popular layout in Orange again, I'm guessing that ED continues to have unrealistic expectations regarding the importance of York and wants to make sure everyone knows that ED (not TCA or the vendors) runs the meet. Add in Lionel's bean counters as GRJ opined, and this is what you get. It has been my suspicion, based on the recent types of product announcements and pricing, that Lionel is trying to maximize short-term profit and make their financials attractive to a buyer.
Unfortunately, we'll probably never get the full story.
Catfight in the parking lot!

BUT, you cared enough to read the thread and let us all know you "could care less"
Is Lionel schedule to attend any shows for the rest of the year? Wondering about the Amherst show at the big E in Jan 2023?
NO LOSS.

Lionel attended the Big E this past January during a major snow storm. Display, staff etc. Given the weather attendance was very low.
They will not have the usual warehouse sale in NC in September.
That's cool. More space for those plastic bump 'n go seizure toys!
@eddie g posted:NO LOSS.
I agree with Eddie. 99% of the reason I go is for the members' tables. Since I won't be buying any new items manufactured by Lionel, I don't need 'em.
Also, for companies and corporations that routinely work with byzantine labor union rules when they exhibit at trade shows and other large public-facing venues, "increased complexity" is just part-and-parcel of their business operations and rolled into the cost of doing business.
@taycotrains posted:I could care less…
You mean you "could not care less," right?
Jeez, people sure like to jump to conclusions and judge without knowing the entire story.
Lionel is just the latest in a long list of vendors who have for various reasons decided to no longer attend York. I’m surprised they stick around as long as they have.
Don't get excited. They haven't made up their mind yet. It plainly reads will be not be.
In the 2022 V2 catalog live video with Chris of RBP Trains and Eric of Eric's Trains, they talked briefly about this live event Lionel is doing, and mentioned that Lionel's crew will be discussing the new Base-3 in more detail. I'll be watching the video. What's the date on the stream? I'm excited.
Also, I really want the new 2023 Vision Engine to be a modern diesel loco maybe a Siemens Charger, ET44AC/ET44C4, or SD70ACe-T4. Those would be my picks. The Erie Triplex (if Lionel got the tooling from MTH), a remake of the PRR CC2, or a PRR T1 Duplex would be amazing, too. I cannot wait until we get all the facts and features of the Base-3 as well. I'll have to wait and see in a month or so.
“ Don't get excited. They haven't made up their mind yet. It plainly reads will be not be.”
Now that’s funny, I don’t care who you are.
OK everyone - this is where we must READ and UNDERSTAND the post that they said. They did not say "no longer." They SPECIFICALLY said they will not attend the FALL TCA York Train Show. Remember, "summer's almost gone, and fall is comin' on." So, they will just not attend this FALL's York show. There is a good chance that Lionel will continue to attend York. The show will continue to remain fabulous as it has always been - it's COVID-19 that has really slowed things down. And right now we have monkeypox entering the U.S., so things are really getting complicated. Everything is acting very unpredictably so it is still too soon to develop conclusions. What we must do right now is remain optimistic and stay tuned to the announcements - and not jump to conclusions too quickly!
To add to the above, Lionel ATTENDED York in Fall 2021! So, that should be pretty good evidence!
@gunrunnerjohn posted:The bottom line is probably that Lionel no longer feels it necessary to spend the money to come to the show, they have little competition right now. They're just going to pocket all that loot, the bean counters win again.
That is my guess as well. They figured that with the cost of going there that they likely would not gain enough sales from being there to offset that cost. And GRJ is right, with the competition basically a shadow of what it had been, they don't stand to lose much in terms of goodwill.
And I thought it was gonna be a quiet Wednesday - silly me 😊
its cool that lionel is announcing another vision engine for 2023
i hope its strasburg related in some way maybe 475?
