I have 2-3 lionel remote switches they programmed with my controller now they will not switch via the controller. I saw somewhere to test the ground plane by putting your hand over the switch and seeing if works. I tried that and they work, what I did not see/remember is the solution. my switches are running off of track power and I have several others on the layout that function with no issues. what would be the best way to fix these?

You can do a couple of things. Run an earth ground next to the switches, it can be buried under the scenery or even under the layout surface. You can also pop the bottom plate off and reorient the antenna wire, sometimes it makes a big difference where it's laying inside the switch.
Which one is the antenna wire?
The Antenna wire is usually black or brown. It should be the only wire that's connected on just one end. It's attached to the small radio PCB, located on the straight side of the turnout.
In the picture below, the blue arrow is pointing to where the Antenna attaches to the Radio Board. In this example, the brown antenna wire loops around the inside of the switch.
