Not the best thing for my first post, but it's an issue that has been driving me nuts. I have the Santa Fe El Capitan conv. set catalogued in 2008. The FT diesel locomotive operates at an excellent level for 7 years old. Although, when it moves at slow speeds over a manual o36 right turnout switch, it abruptly stops and the lights flash. The engine continues to operate in neutral as though nothing had happened. Here's some info that could possibly be useful:
-The Layout is a "small" 10' X 5'
-I'm using the original CW80 transformer that came with the set
-I've tested the track power with a meter in some areas and it is relatively the same except for the normal fluctuations
-There is no spot for a 9v battery, as in most legacy diesels, which would normally prevent this issue
My theory is that the engine is moving to slowly over the switch and the famous dead spot in any three-rail O scale switch makes the power drop out. But, the other pickup roller should be controlling the engine while the other roller passes through the dead spot. I planned to contact Lionel customer support, but the day I post this it's Sunday. If anyone has had a similar issue, and has successfully solved it, please help! It is greatly appreciated.
