looking for parts and instruction to repair Lionel Gp7 GM50. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Replies sorted oldest to newest
To update this post. This is a Lionel GP7 GM50. conventional. It needs the middle large gear. I removed motor truck, kinda. I wasn't able to figure out how to get the silver plate off, yes I broke the e clips too. I am unable to go much farther. If anyone can help would greatly appreciate it. I could use a parts list, or exploded view. also is it just easier to replace motor truck, if I can ever figure out how to get it apart. Thanks. See attached photos

Good luck finding a new motor truck for that engine it is no longer available. I bought a new armature for mine but its not available either so you have to find a donor engine and rob the motor truck and check with Jeff at traintender.com see if you can get some parts.
I believe the Lionel number for this loco is 8359 made 1973. The paint scheme celebrates GMs 50th anniversary

thanks Rich for the exploded View. Sorry I forgot the number, 6-8359. still unsure how to take the **** motor truck apart. Do I have to drill, remove all, they look like plastic rivets. It has traction tires too and I can't see how to get the wheel covers off. Thanks again this is a start.
Thanks Jeff. Yes I am coming to that realization. I may look into getting an old 600 motor and trucks. see if that will work.
Thanks franktrain.
Rob you can get the pinion gear part no. 8010-117 for 1.00 price thru Jeff at www.thetraintender.com and yes that parts breakdown is the right one Rich!!! Rob you may have to send your engine to a lionel repair guy there is a few on here i think Chuck Sartor one them if i spelled his last name right.

You're welcome Rob!!!
Rob looking at your picture not sure how you get the truck and motor frame apart but if your axle if its not stripped i would buy a new gear and use locktight and that would be the quickest fix.
Jeff thanks very much. I will call jeff tomorrow. I also think your right about the repairman, this isn't something "easy". I will look into that tomorrow as well.

No need to disassemble any further. This is a nylon gear and is an easy interference fit into that worm axle... a tiny dab of LockTite will be fine.
Yes you did spell my name right Chessie. No need to take the truck apart any further. You can work a new gear on from the side without removing the truck sideframe. Same with the traction tires.
Grease the gears etc while appart

Thank you Chuck. Not sure about traction tires. I did see something about using 2 paper clips to help. Any other suggestions?
